'Mother's bond is stronger'

'Mother's bond is stronger'

by Crystal Chan

MORE than most working parents, Madam Sally (not her real name) cherishes every moment with her two children, aged seven and five.

This is because every second spent with them has been hard-won, first in the Family Court, then in the High Court.

Madam Sally, whom we cannot identify as her children are minors, refused to give up in a bitter custody battle with her ex-husband. After more than a year, she regained care and control of her children last month.

On Oct 30 last year, the Family Court awarded joint custody of the children to her and her ex-husband, a 52-year-old businessman.

The decision meant that their father would have care and control over the children and would get to live with the children.

Madam Sally may have had joint custody, but it meant she would only have visitation rights and be consulted on the children's education and upbringing.

Madam Sally appealed and last month, the High Court overturned the Family Court's verdict.

Re: 'Mother's bond is stronger'

I find the title to be half-true. I hate to admit it, but from an evolutionary point of view, a bond between son and mother is more likely to be stronger than a bond between son and father. A son would see the father as a competitor to the head of the tribe, and thus be closer to their mother. Most guys can confirm this.

However, that does not mean a daughter would be closer to the mother or father. In the past, yes, the daughter, having spent more time with her mother, would be closer to her mother. No longer in neo-society. Now, with both parents working, it is very unlikely for a daughter would be any more closer to her mother than to her father.

In fact, I think children nowadays are closer to their maids than their parents.. I see this in my cousins.. Who knows? One day, a maid might be able to contest for custody for a child..

I gotta admit; i saw it in my nephew as well; he looks for his maid more than his mum (my sis)... even when heading out for shopping/trips, he holds d maid's hand instead & even told my sis, he seldom c her ard, even if she's ard, she also didnt acknowledge his calls, so he feels maid closer to him~
