M'sia: Crowds flock before image of Virgin Mary on hospital window

Catholic Church would withhold official comment until the image had been tested and verified.

Sun, Nov 11, 2012
The Star/Asia News Network

SUBANG JAYA - An image of what seems to be the Blessed Virgin Mary on a window at the Sime Darby Medical Centre (SDMC) here is drawing crowds.

A large group of people, mostly Catholics, gathered below the area at the new wing of the hospital yesterday, lighting candles, singing hymns and reciting prayers.

Traffic was heavy around the vicinity, with even tourist buses pulling up by the roadside.

Secretary Janet Tong, 45, described the apparition as "amazing".

"It is so wonderful that our Mother has come to us in a hospital, where many of the sick are crying out for her help," she said.

Several claimed the colour and position of the image also changed.

Businessman Sheree Rao, 21, who went up inside to get a close look at the window, said the image was only visible from the outside.

"I touched the glass, thinking it could be paint or something else. But there was nothing,'' he added.

Student Nicole Jo Pereira, 20, said she believed the image was a call for people to do good deeds.

Teacher Kenneth Fong, 27, said he was sure of an image on the window. "But whether it's from God, I don't know."

Photographs of the image, believed to have appeared several days ago, have gone viral on Facebook.

Access to the window from inside the building has been restricted by the hospital.

A hospital official declined to comment on the matter.

Catholic newsletter The Herald editor Rev Father Lawrence Andrew said the Catholic Church would withhold official comment until the image had been tested and verified by theologians and church authorities.

Catholics believe that Mary, as mother of Jesus Christ, is the Mother of God.

Virgin Mary image in hospital window becomes clearer: Witnesses

Virgin Mary image in hospital window becomes clearer: Witnesses

Some eyewitnesses reported seeing another image forming on one of the windows below.

Mon, Nov 12, 2012
The Star/Asia News Network

SUBANG JAYA - The image of what some are claiming to be that of the Blessed Virgin Mary on one of Sime Darby Medical Centre's windows here has continued to draw people from all over Malaysia.

Many eyewitnesses, some of whom had been visiting the centre for several days, said the image had "grown clearer" since Saturday.

Malacca-Johor Diocesan Pastoral Institute director Rev Deacon Dr Sherman Kuek said if the immediate result actually excited deeper faith among the Catholics, it was a good thing.

"But even so, this by no means confirms the authenticity of the image as an apparition of Mary," said Rev Kuek, who holds a doctorate in theology.

He advised Catholics to always keep their attention on Jesus Christ.

Traffic along the medical centre was heavy yesterday, with many parking their cars along the side of the road to see the image.

Some were seen taking photographs with their various electronic gadgets while others prayed and sang hymns.

"The image was brighter and clearer than yesterday. It is certainly different," said student Kyle Lim, 21.

Some eyewitnesses reported seeing another image forming on one of the windows below, which they claimed resembled the face of Jesus.

Special containers for people to place candles were also set up there.

Photographs of the image, believed to have appeared several days ago, have gone viral on Facebook.

'Virgin Mary' draws hundreds of Malaysian Catholics

'Virgin Mary' draws hundreds of Malaysian Catholics

Those assembled Sunday maintained they can now also see an image of an adult Jesus Christ just two windows away from His mother.

Mon, Nov 12, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Hundreds of Catholics have gathered in prayer and worship outside a Malaysian hospital after seeing an image said to resemble the Virgin Mary on one of the windows.

Pictures of the image have gone viral among local Christians on Facebook and large crowds have gathered at the Sime Darby Medical Centre just outside Kuala Lumpur.

Those assembled Sunday maintained they can now also see an image of an adult Jesus Christ just two windows away from His mother.

Nearly 100 Catholics were still at the hospital Sunday, lighting candles, singing hymns and saying prayers. Several tourist buses added to the congestion.

Some have come from as far as Singapore, over 300 kilometers (187 miles) away, to see the image on a seventh-floor window, which they describe as a miracle.

"We believe Mary, mother of God, has a message for us, as she is looking down on us and then at a Malaysian flag. We can also see Jesus and He is also moving, they are not static," Eunice Fernandez, who lives nearby, told AFP.

The 54-year-old housewife dismissed claims the image could be a hoax.

Sime Darby, which is primarily a plantations conglomerate, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Father Lawrence Andrew, editor of Malaysian Catholic newsletter The Herald, told AFP the Church would need to investigate and verify the authenticity of the images and "the experiences of the witnesses."

"It could be private revelations. We have to make sure they are not imagined but real apparitions," he said.

Catholics make up a sizeable minority in Muslim-dominated Malaysia.

'Virgin Mary' window pane to go to Malaysia church

'Virgin Mary' window pane to go to Malaysia church

The panel will be moved to another church outside Kuala Lumpur "which will be more conducive for prayer and reflection," said Rev. Simon Labrooy.

Tue, Nov 13, 2012
AFP

KUALA LUMPUR - The window pane at a Malaysian hospital that has drawn throngs of Catholics who see on it an image resembling the Virgin Mary will be moved to a church, officials said on Tuesday.

Hundreds of Catholics have gathered in prayer and worship at the Sime Darby Medical Centre (SDMC) just outside the capital Kuala Lumpur since last week after seeing the image on one of the windows.

Rev. Simon Labrooy, the priest of nearby St. Thomas More Parish, said in a statement that the hospital's management in a meeting with him had agreed to give the glass panel to the Catholic Church.

He said the panel would be moved to another church outside Kuala Lumpur, Marian Church of Our Lady of Lourdes Klang, "which will be more conducive for prayer and reflection".

"The Catholic Church is in agreement with SDMC that the present situation cannot continue as we are concerned of the direct effect this may have on emergency services of SDMC," he said in the statement.

"We assure the community that the image will be handled in the most respectful and sensitive manner," he said, adding that "professional services" would be deployed to ensure there is no damage to the glass during removal and transport.

The Catholic Church still needs to test the image and have theologians and church authorities confirm its authenticity, he said. He gave no time frame for this process or the glass panel's removal.

A SDMC official confirmed the panel would be moved but declined to comment further.

Pictures of the image on the seventh-floor window have gone viral on Facebook, drawing Christians from as far away as neighbouring Singapore with many describing it as a miracle.

People who assembled over the weekend said they could also see an image of an adult Jesus Christ just two windows away from his mother.

About nine per cent of Malaysia's 29 million people are Christians. Some 60 per cent are Muslims.

To clear all doubt, they can just go near the window and identify what cause the image.

I believe no one is allowed near the window for fear that someone might clean the image off the window.

Removal of 'Virgin Mary' panel needs to be done delicately

Removal process was only at the discussion stage because they wanted no damage done to the panel.

The Star/Asia News Network

SELANGOR, Malaysia - Efforts to remove the glass panel with the Blessed Virgin Mary's image has to be done carefully because the panel is aging and delicate.

Representatives from a local Catholic parish visited the Sime Darby Medical Centre yesterday to discuss how best to remove the panel.

Present were SDMC management and the contractor engaged to ensure no damage to the glass panel during its transfer to the Marian Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Klang.

"We discussed the best method to remove it safely as the window pane is aging and is delicate," said a church representative.

"The access to the site is not easy, so we are talking about the possibility of using a sky lift as the process has to be done from the outside."

The representative said the removal process was only at the discussion stage because they wanted no damage done to the panel.

Meanwhile, folks continued to make trips to the hospital to catch a glimpse of the image. Many were seen praying and singing hymns at the hospital grounds.

Among them was Nigerian Chris-topher Vincent, 32, who was leading the crowd with prayers.

Aloycious Cruez, 52, said he and his family were there "to give thanks for our answered prayer".

"I had a stroke and was paralysed," he said. "However, I have now been healed."
