You have to cover so much more in FI, including accounting and finance, which really isn't that useful in my book, and takes time away from other more feasible modules.

Re: Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) discussion thread!

Any idea which degree (most probably private) I can pursue if I were to continue my studies? Also, does that mean Business Informatics can get into degree courses more easily than Financial Informatics?

practically gives you a head start in all business courses. Not much of a difference with FI in that aspect. You can also pursue IT degrees.

Has anyone heard of Diagnostic Radiography? It seems like a diploma with a very small number of jobs available.

Your job will be lonely becuase you'll be handling with the diagnostics. It just to be the doctor doing this job... but in order to free up the doctor's time, you will be solely responsible in providing the doctor a report of the diagnostics.

Let say if a doctor suspect the patient is having some sort of tumour in the stomach, the doctor will send the patient to you lab. You'll use the state-of-the-art (as they always claim) machine to see whether the patient is having tumour anot...

You can work in the hospital's diagnostics department. It's highly in demand now. It's the type of job where it requires experience. The longer you work for diagnostics, the most experience you have, the demand for your experience will be greater.

Wel what I learnt in NYP was relatively Cisco Network Switching & Routing, Windows Server 2008 and Redhat Linux as these were the modules covered in the first year. But of course there are also other topics like IT Service Management, Project Management, InfoSecurity, Green Computing, Cloud Computing etc which will also be part of the modules.

I believe anything that you have not learnt is useful in some way or another. It depends what you want to achieve.

Re: Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) discussion thread!

I also did learn abit of Cisco Network Switching & Routing like CCNA 1 & 3, Windows Server 2008 and Redhat Linux during my study of Higher Nitec Part time but it is a 6 month module and they were rushing to cover everything. In the end we couldn't get very familiar with it.

I think what we learnt in Higher Nitec IT is similar to Poly year 1 or 2, that is to learn the basic before we get to specialist modules. But it's good to learn it again...

NYP in particular is quite well equipped. I know they have a Games Resource Centre to produce games for the playstations (PSP, PS4 etc)

If I can't get into IT course, Social Science kinda fits my interest. Is the course good, and what do they teach?

just beware, this line can be really emotionally draining, and the pay is low compared to other fields. just go for the diploma and see where you can go from there, after all SIM also has a degree course if you wish to pursue further studies.

I think it depends on what you want to do after you graduated, but I will say my experience was good.

The technical skills are mostly self-taught, but concepts on how things work are well taught and explained by the lecturers.
