National Education proven effective in teaching pupils about Singapore

SINGAPORE: Most of the students surveyed in Singapore have confidence in Singapore's future.
A National Education quiz given to Primary six and Secondary four students here last year, showed that 74 per cent of students believe that Singapore will remain prosperous over the next five years.
The results also showed that nine out of 10 students said they were proud to be Singaporeans, with 82 per cent feeling comfortable with friends from a different religious background.
Education Minister Ng Eng Hen revealed this in a written reply to a question by MP for Marine Parade GRC, Fatimah Lateef.
She had asked if the National Education Programme in schools has achieved its objectives so far.
The programme was introduced in 1997. And to date, 144 schools effectively infused National Education into the schools' formal and informal curricula.
Dr Ng said the survey results are encouraging. But the Education Ministry will continue to review its National Education Programme and content to make sure it continues to serve its objective of developing national cohesion.
