Alright, I noticed that a lot of people wrote their anion Y as " Sulphate " but I don't think that's the correct answer.
It should be spelled " Sulfate ". I don't know - my teacher said they're strict on this. I don't know if you guys have the notes on GCE Ordinary 5116 Science (Phy,chem), 5117 and 5118 but if you do then it's on page 21 where it's spelled Sulfate.
Did you write SULPHATE or SULFATE?

Sulphate is the old spelling. Sulfate is the new spelling. And they won't penalize coz it's like a new change, even our textbooks still write sulphate.
Btw, sulfate is the wrong answer anyway.

I wrote sulphate. Used to it, even though i see the back the notes it write sulfate. Lol.

why did they change the spelling to sulfate? isnt that the american english's spelling? and i thought the O levels is marked at cambridge of the UK? and i thought they use british english in which sulphate is spelt like so?
this is so confusing... so which english do they want us to learn?
thank god i'm through with O levels...

idk i only know my cher told me the official spelling change but sulphate still accepted.
And the answer to Y is Hydroxide. i wrote sulfate -.- and i had the gut feeling it was hydroxide *stabs self*

i miss chemistry practicals... they are the most fun out of the 3 sciences...
physics practicals are the worst and the most boring... no fun at all

my teacher says both is carbonate  duno hydroxide or carbonate correct..but either way i wrote sulfate zzz...moreover i think i kinda screw up for my bio practical...not converting cm to mm(i actually know! But i think i didnt see then i saw a thread whree people said that they didnt know how to convert cm to mm...)Sob.....  3 marks gone eh maybe 2 marks gone cuz either way converting mm to cm or not the magnification will be the same

If you spell "sulphate" or "sulfate" in the paper, both are accepted for this year only.
As recently, Cambridge decided to adopt "sulfate" and this year is the transition year, so both spellings are accepted.

sulfate - american
sulphate - british
i guess both should be accepted
