Olympics 2008

Opening ceremony is just 1 day away, which country will win the most number of golds, will it be the hosts China, traditional powerhouse USA or european giants Russia?

Anyone thinks that Team S'pore can win back 1 medal?

Usually the hosts will get the "benefit of the doubt" for events that require subjective judgment, like gymnastics, diving etc.. China will win alot of gold from such events.

What events are Singapore competing in?

Lol, my colleagues were saying China confirm will adv to e semis for soccer. I'm more interested in basketball for the hosts though, China v US, can home adv really win them a gold against the All Stars.

I think our hopes is on table tennis, bowling and shooting, the rest dun need to fight at all.

How abt M'sia, wad sports u confident in?

Yea, Singapore should do well in table tennis.

In our newspapers this morning it was reported that the contingent is just hoping to bring back one medal from badminton! Doesn't sound like they've alot of confidence, right?

Anyway, besides football, I love track and field and will be looking forward to these events.

It seems Mascherano, Lucas and Babel all played 90 minutes for their national teams in yesterday's games. I'll also be very interested in matches featuring these guys.

I think Lin Dan is still no. 1 while Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei is no. 2. But Lee is erratic, get over-confident and then get completely deflated when he starts losing! Don't be surprised if he loses to Singapore's Ronny Susilo.

Malaysia with her 23+ million population should be doing pretty well in a number of sports. Our football team played in one Olympics, then boycotted another one (Moscow Olympics I think) ... after that, it was down-hill almost all the way! Don't want to say too much here lah, but too much non-sports concerns, too much interference - well, if you do that you pay the price lah!

If squash is played in the Olympics this year, our Nicol David will probably win gold!
