ORD Japan Trip - Any tips?

Hey guys,

I am planning to visit Japan next year (2012) when I ORD. Can visit during April - July before my university studies start. However I have no idea which part to choose to visit. Shopping and sightseeing are all fine. Hoping to escape the summer heat too, so probably I'll go in late April or Early May.

1. Which part of Japan do you recommend?

2. Personally I do wish to visit Hokkaido. Is Hokkaido recommended in April/May? Or are there better places to visit in that period that will be more value for money?

3. Join tours or free&easy?

4. How much money, not including flight and accomodation, will I approx. need (in SGD)?

Firstly, if you're on a budget, you can always loo at ANA's packages.

Secondly, around April & May would be the season for cherry blossoms, (Correct me if i am wrong.)

Free and easy tour might be not as hectic, but before you go, you should have amople information on your hand, if you're doing free and easy.

Also, i think you should make a visit down to this upcoming Natas' fair to get a more detailed idea on the costs. Just be sure to check out the hidden costs.

i suppose this is your first time since u posted for advice

1. tokyo (like everyone says, visit the capital first)
if you have time, you can try osaka or kyoto but it's gonna cost money for the rail pass

2. if u want to visit hokkaido, then you should go ahead
hokkaido in april/may is probably spring so you will likely see those greenery etc etc
hokkaido is kinda' expensive to me
that period also has golden week so prices might be higher

3. if you cant stand being lost in translation, go for tours

if you can speak a bit of japanese or want save costs, go free & easy

if you enjoy going to a country where u dun understand the language at all (my friend like that), go free & easy too

4. depends on what you want to shop, and how long you want stay especially for the price of meals
i like going for sightseeing so i don't bring so much, sort of survive on 700 - 800 less accomodation and flight ticket
