Parents too harsh on their kids?

Recently i have been noticing this trend.

In public, whenever a child misbehaves, i see his/her parent scolding him/her, barking loudly, almost like abuse. They hurl harsh words at their children of only 5 years or lesser, and hit them until they wail loudly. They are unabashed of doing this in public. Some parents even leave/abandon their children in the corridor and walk away!

I am takan aback by the reactions of parents. I feel that such treatment is way too harsh for little kids, and might in turn make their kids resent them and rebel more. What are your views? Is this an appropriate way to discipline children?

Harsh meh ?
More and more parents treat their kids like emperors, empresses. Pampering them too much and giving them too much freedom.

Re: Parents too harsh on their kids?

It's difficult to draw a line what harsh and not...Parent do what they know best how to discipline their kids. No parent want their kids to be bad.

Too harsh they'll be accuse of child abuse, lenient the will be label heck care parent..Not easy being one nowaday..

Re: Parents too harsh on their kids?

i believe there is the right way and the wrong way of discipline.

scolding when it is appropriate but not to the extent the you want the crowd attention unless the parents want that attention.

it will have effects esp if the boy/girls is only 5, later grow up become a rebel how?

Children have their pride too, just that they are too young.

it is time to teach your little cousin, you know ?
wonder what your relatives are thinking about.
they will regret it when their child, which is your cousin, grows up.

Re: Parents too harsh on their kids?

It's real diffcult to say what correct and whats wrong, harsh or not.
The way our parents treat us is most likely how the grandparents treat them.
Just like a cycle.

we are living in the 21st century loh.

nowadays children dare to raise their hands against their parents.

that is why must teach them from young whats right and wrong

Well, in the future they regret is also their problem already since they are the real roots of the problem. They bear the consequences.

Right ?

There are definitely such parents but the number is still minor compared to the traditional parents.

should tame them when they are young, else when they're at your age, they will be too bitchy or bastard to carry on their life

when Im young, I beg for so long then can get a toy..
While many other kids have so many TOYS, while I...
Normally in primary school, my friends had Mp3.. Handphone..
I beg for 2 yrs.. from pri 6 to sec 2.. then I get a Zen Neeon Mp3..worth 300 plus buck at that time.
Till now, My Mp3 is 4 yrs now.. i guess.. didn't buy new one.
And My Handphone, only when it spolit, my father buy.. Yup..
so far my current one is the 2nd handphone.. unlike my friends around me, Itouch, Iphone, Blackberry.. Yup.. mine is just an ordinary phone

My parents have taught me not to anyhow waste money on gadgets.

Being too harsh drives kids away and being too soft allows kids to walk all over you. Of course, there are times when the action demonstrated by the teenager calls for harsh discipline.

Re: Parents too harsh on their kids?

Parents who pamper their kids are simply ruining them and not helping them.
Lets see these kids, when they grow up, who will pamper them.
