People who asks for donations (not tin can donations)

Just wanted to share this incident that happened to me today.
I went to Bugis today with my friends, and we went to sit near the water fountain, opposite StarBucks Cafe. Suddenly, there's this aunty with hideous eye shadow walking towards me. I thought she wanted to sit beside me, but I was wrong.

God, she started rambling about how she lost her son due to a fit, and she is old around 50+ and hard to get a job. She then asked me whether I could pity her and donate to her.

I asked her whether if she's from any of the charity organizations, and whether she had a license or some sort of identification, to be safe.

She then spoke to her friend, "wapiang still need license ah?"
Then she said straight to the point, "can you donate $2 to me?"

I lied to her and said no.

I wonder if I did the wrong thing. But if she was poor, how can she afford those eye shadow that she applied on her face and her handbag? Her handbag looks expensive.

She suddenly went away and there's a lady security officer came asking me what happened.

I didn't take a picture of her, but I think she was wearing a blue/purple shirt and black pants, with light shiny blue eye shadow with a purple handbag. @_@

This kind of incident happened to me many times before. @_@
They came to me instead of my friends.
How to say no?

U have already said no and ignored her earlier in your msg...so yea u are not doing the wrong thing. Its our rights to either reject or give.

But hor those who normally give will end up being harassed almost everyday.

Usually i would just reject such request politely.

For me, i have been engaging several social works such as overseas/local voluntary works with Ci Ji, and bringing food to the elders with the grassroots organisation.

i also donated to some charity homes... i admit that i ain't saint, so there's only so much i can do, and its impossible for me to give money to every single person who needed help.

there was this lady who came to my partner and I in a bookshop [at city hall] holding out a donation card [no idea why the hell in a bookstore but that was what happened] we just said sorry, no.

and the other time, at city hall [again] was harassed but this guy who kept shaking my hand.

"are you christian?"
"yes"
"yes, very good, god bless you" -shakes head-
"are you a student?"
"yes"
"very good, you're the future of our country" -shakes hand-

I stood there cause he didn't really give me a chance to move away? And at the end of the whole thing, he was selling these pens [yes, them again] and asked me for 4 dollars. I said I was broke and he was really sarcastic.

"you don't even have 2 dollars?"
"no."
"because you're a student right so you don't have 2 dollars"

I was like wtf.

If you don't feel like giving, just say no. Second time just raise your voice a little and stare. Don't be afraid for you are not wrong to not give.

happens to me lol for those that goes to dhouby ghaut/plaza sing that area outside plaza sing alot of such people selling stuffs also, i always them them i bought alrdy then they will go like oh okay. lol even though i didnt buy anything at all.

There was once a group of indian woman crowded me and my friend at BP Interchange
They say they were either ex-convict or single-mum, seeking people for donation
Asked for their license - they can't produce any to convince us
The most ridiculous thing is their donation still got "minimum amount"
At least must donate $5, wtf -.-

Of course we refused, and the whole group of them just like stare at us while we walk away. Heard from my friend who stay around that area that those woman frequently does that at the BP interchange.

From TS, I could relate a similar experience, but at that time, the woman that approached me kept showing me her 'partner's' amputated arm, attempting to force people to donate in a form of 'guilt'.

And when people don't, you could hear her grumble about how petty people are. I mean yeah, you have a license and the rights to ask for donations, but she practically asked for ANY amounts, like coins and etc. I saw a kid giving the auntie all his coins cuz she said it was okay for any amount to be put in, but the way she asked for it was rather disturbing.

Goodness, what the hell is going on these days.

Its estimated that we have a population of 5 millions and that does not include FTs or FWs. If everyone give me 20 cents which is not much, I already be a millionaire!

yeah lor. that's why i don't call the hotline. If i really want to donate i would send a cheque/directly donate to the organisation the amount i want to donate.
