#4 seems not bad
#5 will look better if you divert your focus to the background instead of the boy in foreground

Not bad but for #6 instead of using direct flash you might want to consider bounce flash or close a little bit longer for natural effect. Personally, I like #4 among all.

If you have been to the photo studio, I bet you had seen all those white umbrellas.

The phothographer will point the flash towards the umbrella and reflect it to the subject to produce the soft flash on the subject. You don't dan't have to use those sophiscated and expensive umbrella. Even a piece of paper will do. please remember, the color of the paper will affect your photo.

But for outdoor photoshoot, bounce flash still not a good solution as it will lighten up the subject but the surounding will be dark like your photo. It best to use without flash. Just that you close a little bit longer and the you will get a natural looking photo. The longer you close the brighter it will be.

This technique is best for scenery but not on ppl or animal as you can see in the photo of the subject movement. Sometimes, that effect (movement) can be awesome. There are some expert here, Weztimonial is one of them..

Actually in terms of flashes and lightings i think dawgbyte is the better choice of person to approach.

If it's sharper, i wouldn't think it's that nice...
it's because of the soothing effect which makes it looks pleasant and nice
if it's going to be sharp, the water will outweigh the dog; just a random thought.

Erm no, what i mean is the dog should be sharper not the water.
Right now the dog seems soft.

You using AF or MF?
If it's AF always make sure your AF points is on the subject you want focused.
If MF all i can say is practice practice practice.

Ahahaha i also don't know how to MF. I trial and error one when it comes down to MF.

So yeap that's how you get sharper subjects. Always make sure your AF point is on the subject you want focused.
