Default Prime Minister Lee launches new NTUC logo

SINGAPORE: The familiar 37-year-old logo of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has been changed to emphasise the inclusiveness of the labour movement for all workers and Singaporeans.

The new logo was launched on Sunday by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, kicking off Singapore's May Day celebrations.

This year's celebrations aim to bond all collars of workers, regardless of age and nationality, and the May Day Rally will be held at a new S$70 million facility at the Downtown East called E!Hub.

At the heart of the new logo is the "U" hallmark which stands for the labour movement working and caring for all workers, helping them to earn a better living and to live a better life.

Nora Kang, NTUC Central Committee Member, said: "I love the old logo but this new logo really injects life into NTUC for all ages and all collars; it's a refreshing change."

Edwin Lye, NTUC Central Committee Member and Ex-Officio, Young NTUC, said: "There is a zen and simplicity look to it, and I think the new generation would be able to identify somewhat with this logo."

Stephen Lee, President of Singapore National Employers' Federation (SNEF), said: "I find it very contemporary. I think the updating is very nicely done. It can be adopted to mean many things, it's very innovative."

"Even though we have a new logo, our core values remain the same. In other words we will always be passionate, always be committed to serve the interests of the workers. Everything we do starts with the interests of the workers and ends with the interests of the workers," said NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say.
