Privacy invasion?

Need some legal help here. I wonder if it is wrong for a company or other related parties to install hidden camera in your work place without ur notice. Its is a resticted room Eg a laboratory lab or a small room.

Re: Privacy invasion?

I think it's okay if they let you know they had installed it. I feel a workplace is a building of trust and it should start with the organisation towards its employees.

Re: Privacy invasion?

I am working in a mice lab. Coz the rm i am in charge of are biohazard. The researchers are very concern of cleaniness in term of bacteria. So there is a lot of SOP to follow when working there. Perhaps they wanna check on me if i follow the procedures. But still, i don think there is a need to put hidden camera. Its like someone is watching you from somewhere. And its become more uneasy for me to do things normally. FYI, my lab is above the mortuary, pathology and forensic!

Re: Privacy invasion?

since you know it's a hidden camera, it's not really hidden right?

in event of bio leak or some outbreak, this camera will serve as a record.

Re: Privacy invasion?

If you have nothing to hide, you need not worry.

Furthermore you are informed of this installation and have agreed to work under your company and agree to their terms and conditions.

Watching you do your work is wrong because you just feel it's creepy?Nothing illegal about that.

Re: Privacy invasion?

the company is a very jia lat place..tell us what is the name of the co, so people here can avoid appling jobs there.

i dont tihnk u can sue them.
just quit the damn place
actually i dont think there is a need to install it. IF you can trust ur employees, why even bother hiring them.

so companies are micro managing their staff. they should close down

Re: Privacy invasion?

I have CCTV installed in my pantry area and all over the office. Its more of a preventive measure than a matter of trust in my case.

Re: Privacy invasion?

CCTV is okay, but not a hidden CCTV. I still don see the need to have one here. Right now i need to find out where it is first. After all, they may be bluffing me just to do things properly. As all my superiors are damm childish and stupid foreigners.

Re: Privacy invasion?

When you go to work, you lose all your rights. You are selling your time. They are paying you for their time. Lots of companies do hidden internet tracking as well as spy cameras. Some even track desktop movement.

It's just like when u hire a babysitter, you spotcheck to see if she's doing her job now and then. They wouldn't know if you're working hard or slacking if they just slack off on the monitoring.

Besides, like i said, you are selling your time. Once you sell your time, it's theirs. They can tell you to do what they want you to do and you're supposed to do it. If you're bothered by their monitoring, it's likely that you're not doing your job as you're supposed to.

There's no such thing as privacy when the time is not even yours in the first place to do private things with.
