there're tons of problems

1)They miss out on charactor building
2)They look too much into getting good grades

Totally agreed!

I also feel that the students are piled up with plenty of homeworks and that they hardly have time for leisure.

This thread is so vague.

Personally i feel that the emphasis on book smart is over till recent with focus on other aspect of growth.

In general, I think the Singapore Education System is far too stressful and like all of you said, they do not care about developing the other aspects of students' growth. Every part of their lives is surrounding my grades, grades and more grades.

Furthermore, I think it's getting more and more stressful. In the past, with 11 points for Os, you can get into NJC. Now, you get the same results and you end up in an average JC or maybe even a polytechnic. Take me for an example. I'm really particular about my mathematics grades and the hard syllabus is not helping me in any way. Whenever I have a question I'm stuck at and could not solve it for a very long time, I start to break down and cry. Yes I am weak mentally but it is also evidence how the system is making us so stressed up? Even over a single math question?

Suzume

well, honestly speaking... if that's stressful, i'm afraid you're gonna have a hard time in the future :d.

i think stress is good. it helps you to develop mentally. ahh also, you wouldn't work as hard if it wasn't so demanding. :p that's why singaporeans can remain ranked high up the 'smartness chart'. because they force us to study!

and if you have china classmates, ask them. their school hours is from 5 am to 9pm with like, only 1 hour break in between. they have to practice and practice. well, at least for my ex-classmate, it was like that. so be grateful they aren't that hiong as some china's schools!

don't cry anw. brother Jodar is here to answer your math queries. :p

The MOE wants the students to learn things that most students will probably not make use of in the future.
in other words. they want to Waste everyone's time.

sorry, i disagree with you in that. :d

i do not go about telling people nonsense. i process everything through my brain. if i say stress is good, chances are i have good evidences and reasons to back my claim. so trust me! stress is good. being unable to manage stress is bad. you have to learn to be tolerant to stress to be successful in the future. :p

here's my 5cents worth:

I feel that the JC students are lacking of industry opportunities such as internship which may be a hinderence for most of them when they enter the working world.

do you think something can be done?

agree.that is the 1 main problem....
than i suppose maybe starting from maybe sec1?
we should have like choosing the job we want to do in future?
than everything is the same but maybe music lessons, cme lessons etc can change to a course on the job instead of wasting it....
than when we reach poly,jc,uni,we can change what we want to do....
than the 1 we choose can minus marks in O's if did well.....

sorry my english is bad...must have a hard time reading it....

conclusion- i'm satisfied and there's no much problem.
