Re: Recommended places for Koh Samui?

I just went to Koh Samui and its not very impressive leh. Beaches were so so, very rocky at some parts. Waters look clean but when go snorkling, visibility quite bad. But the good thing hor, very empty. I went in first week of June somemore, during school hols. So empty! They say its low season, so strange rite??

Beaches had some people but generally very peaceful and quiet.

Food also so so only. Did not even find a thai food place that impressed us. But found this really cool beach restaurant called 'Rock Salt', which i will highly recommend to go. Can chill by the beach and the food (western) is pretty great and cheap!

We hired this driver, called Mr Samui, which i highly recommend. Cheaper than taxis and other private taxi companies and very personal. Driver was punctual and can recommend places to go. We paid like 3300 baht for a full day (8hr taxi), but of course can bargain if you take a few days.

In order to save money, we didn't fly direct from Singapore. We actually took Tiger Airways to Phuket ($100+) and then took BKK from Phuket to Koh Samui ($100+), compared to direct flight which was like $700+
Troublesome thing is to arrange for good connecting times, we spent waiting at Phuket for about 3hrs each way. And also got to collect luggage and go thru immigration, but due to low season, was quite fast.

Hope this helps!
