I was told that the first few batches found it very hard because they didn't even have a GPA system back then.

thats what I heard too. The class would usually start with a topic, the teacher will teach as per normal, then give an assignment for the students to work on.

I like that if its true. Active discussion after being taught a little bit of theory beats an hour of lecture for me.

The first is if you want to be a physical instructor/trainer, second is if you want to be involved in sports business management type...

I think it consists of a very broad range of studies by inferring other courses with similar names at other schools. Can range from Specialist Engineer, System Engineer, Project Manager etc.

I hear RP is the easiest to get into...is there any chance of entry if you fail Eng and Maths?

Fail only (D7) I think there are some courses that you can still barely get into. But E8 then I would say no chance.

I would say that applies to all polys actually. You can't get into much courses without decent grades in these 2 subjects.

RP is easier to get in as compared to other Polytechnic because it is a new Poly as compared to other Poly. In addition, RP comes up with new courses almost every year therefore making the cut off point lower as it is a new course.

You can get in if you get a D7 for your English, but it is a must to pass your Maths (except for some courses). In this case, you must have a pass for your other subjects in order to get into RP. However, an E8 or F9 is not acceptable.

I hope this helps

I would advise you to retake both your Eng & Maths while you're in RP as it will help you a lot for your future such as Internship placement and applying for a degree program, etc.

There will be lectures only for selected modules/courses. I once had a module which consist of 4 hour of lectures and trust me I would literally fall asleep. Nothing goes into my head and I learnt that lecture system is super boring and complicating. Mine was a 4 hour lecture with 60 over slides & we will have a pre-reading to do before we come to class. After the lecture we have another 1 - 2 hours of gym class (as our module is a gym one), and we have to apply what we learnt during the lecture and pre-reading in our gym class. How are we suppose to apply when we were sleeping during lecture? Am I right?

Thus, PBL system is so much better than the lecture system!

This is how a PBL system works. There are 3 meetings in total. Everyone will have a different group for each module and that group will be changed after 3 - 5 weeks. For example, if today's topic is on Technology, this is how it works.

1st meeting - We will be given with a topic to do a presentation at the end of the day, e.g. How does Technology contribute to our daily lifestyle? The teacher will ask us to discuss on what we know about technology, what we don't know about technology & what we need to find out about technology within our group. After this discussion, we will get a broader view & also more doubts to clarify with our teacher. No worries as our teacher will help us clear our doubts.

2nd meeting - We will have a worksheet to do (can be either done as a group or individual, depending on the teacher). The worksheet will be more elaborated with a lot of embed links or attached PDF to read. The worksheet will give us a better understanding on the day's topic and then the teacher will go through the worksheet either as a class or group by group.

3rd meeting - Since we get a better understanding from the worksheet even some answers to our presentation question. We can also add in the questions that we asked in the first meeting to enhance our presentation (which means better daily grade). Then do our presentation. After which, we will be given a homework on that day's topic so that it will further enhance our understanding.

Re: The Republic Polytechnic discussion thread

Do you'll know that RP exams are open book? Just a little tip about open book exam.
Firstly, do not think that since its open book its easy, its actually even more difficult than close book exams.

Copy paste all the essential notes from your 6P, pdf readings, google and whichever website that is reliable to a mircosoft word document. Also, copy paste your RJ answers that you think is relevant for that particular topic into the word doc (I swear it help during your exam). Lastly, copy paste your daily quiz answers also as it might come out some times.

However, don't just solely depend on your notes all the time, do revise well on how you can apply what you have learnt for 15 weeks into your exam.
