Re: The Republic Polytechnic discussion thread

As far as I know the most famous food in RP is their Ayam Penyet at Lawn Canteen and queue is always super duper long. You must be either very lucky or kiasu if you join the queue before it gets long. By the time you queue and buy the food, almost half your break is gone but the wait is worth. Even after graduating I always go down to that stall to get their signature Ayam Penyet dish!

Another famous food is their Lok Lok at E Canteen, the queue for it is shorter as compared to the Ayam Penyet one but its one of the most famous food in RP too. Super spicy and delicious! RP used to have a famous Waffle stall but they took it down. They still do have like 3 or 4 waffle stalls in RP though.

Have you tried any of RP's famous food?

Oooh I've heard the Ayam Penyet, is it the one at the air conditioned canteen? So interesting, a school with an air conditioned canteen. How's the environment like in lawn canteen and is it very cold?

Re: The Republic Polytechnic discussion thread

I found this:

Don't think the western food is anything special but the prices are really dirt cheap even for a school canteen.

Whoa, I didn't know that the vegetarian stall and the nasi padang stall was that famous. The vegetarian stall's variety of food is always the same and it gets boring after some time, and I guess why it's crowded because there's only 2 vegetarian stalls in the whole of RP. The vegetarian stall at E Canteen definitely taste better than the one in Lawn.

The western food stall's Black Pepper Chicken Chop is really good, worth the money! RP-ians should try that!

Yes yes, it's the air conditioned canteen at the W Block. It depends on the time actually, sometimes the canteen can be very buzzy and noisy especially during lunch time but normal times the environment is quite fine. As in there will be crowd but not very noisy & no it's not cold nor hot. The temperature in that canteen is perfect, even during rainy days the temperature in the canteen is fine. Likewise other canteens you can feel the humid but for this canteen you won't feel it.

Re: The Republic Polytechnic discussion thread

Hi all

I'm from the 2009 batch from Republic Poly.

RP has nice setting and its air condition throughout the entire campus minus outdoor areas.

The food is cheap and there's a lot of places to eat.

Well, I ran out of places to eat because I was there for 3 years.

I still visit RP even after so many years to enjoy and relax and well .. walk down memory lane.

I'm from Diploma in Interactive and Digital Media(DIDM) btw

Wow, nice to hear that! I gotta agree that I too ran out of places to eat as all the food centre gets bored after sometime so I started bringing food from my house. But towards the last semester I utilized all the food centre including Subway so that I wouldn't regret of not trying any of RP's food before I graduate hehe. Unfortunately, I do miss RP food and crave for some of it a lot of times.

All RP-ians, do have lots of fun before you'll graduate because you will definitely miss school like I miss school now.

Re: The Republic Polytechnic discussion thread

Check this out guys! Two of the best stalls including the Lok Lok stall in E Canteen is best stalls that I know by far. Price is just right, meal is filling and food is really good. Even the Ayam Penyet and the western food stall is featured as the best food in Republic Polytechnic.

Re: The Republic Polytechnic discussion thread

I heard there's this thing call the CCE point system in RP whereby you have to complete a certain amount of points then only you can graduate. Is it true and what is the system really about, how can I complete it?

There isn't much of a diff in the polys in terms of IT. I think Engineering is the only subject where a particular poly (SP) excels at,

It's know as the Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) whereby you need to complete 40 points before you graduate, if not you will have to retain another semester just to complete the 40 points. However, you will be awarded with 20 points if you pass your internship, which means your another 20 points have to be completed by other activities. But no worries, you will have a lot of email every day regarding CCE activities. You can complete it by joining in volunteer activities, open house and etc.

Yes yes, you need to fulfill 40 points before you graduate but don't need to worry because you will be spammed with CCE activities email every single day. You must achieve 10 curriculum points and remaining 30 or more non-curriculum points.. The curriculum points are often those activities that are related to your course if I am not wrong.

A small advice to all those who haven't completed their 40 points, it's better to complete your 40 points before your internship. Do not depend too much on that 20 points as it is not 100% trustworthy. It is advisable to get it done before you enter year 3 so that you can concentrate on your modules and FYP in year 3.

Re: The Republic Polytechnic discussion thread

Roughly how many hours will have to be spent on CCE to obtain the 40 points?

Re: The Republic Polytechnic discussion thread

In RP, we do not call our teachers as "teachers", we call them facilitators. What kind of facilitators have you met in RP so far? Nice ones or not so nice ones?

Do share your experience!

Re: The Republic Polytechnic discussion thread

what is the teaching method like in RP? Do these facilitators leave students to their own devices much or chip in ideas constantly?

This is not based on the number of hours, it is based on the number of points. For example, they will send you an email stating about the activity and the number of CCE points you will receive if you join the activity. None of RP emails state about the number of hours for an activity, even if they do, they will only calculate it as points. So no worries about the number of hours.
