Well, just to perhaps share one of my best trips I ever been to. Was in Australia doing my studies 2 years back and so decided to head to South New Zealand for a road trip after my final exams. Reason being I was pretty much mesmerized by the sceneries shown in LOTR and also it's cheaper to fly to NZ from Aust, compared to Spore to NZ.
So in any case, I will cut short on the background info which is pretty unneeded and jump straight into the details. Basically I planned a 10 days road trip around the whole South Island. Rented a car which probably cost me SGD600 for the entire trip, shared between 3 people. FYI, since its a road trip, I would recommend maximum 3 or 4 people in a normal 5-seater car cause you will want additional space to cramp up your stocks of food. Driving in NZ is pretty easy as long as you have the necessary maps in your hand. Sceneries are absolutely breathtaking. You can see spots where Legolas shot his arrow, endless mountains, snow, rivers etc. Wanted to put up some pictures but too bad I have less than 10 posts. Trust me, it is one of those places you need to go in your lifetime.
Initially the plan was to drive caravan cause wanted to test how life is staying in one. But backed out last min due to several reasons:
- You need to empty your shit everyday.
- You take longer time to reach your destination.
- It shall remain a dream.
So rented a normal sedan car instead. Accomodations wise pretty cheap. They have this huts (sorry I forgot the proper name) which is pretty decent with round 3 or 4 beds in it and costs round SGD50 per night per hut. There is a common bathroom and even kitchen so if you are those budget types, can always stock up your food (thats why I say leave space in your car) and cook at the kitchen.
Other than all these, driving is pretty dangerous at night. Total pitch black and for one thing you are sure is once you go over tha barriers, you can plunge down the mountains. Thats why I stick to 120kph on average. Ok that was pretty crazy considering the visibility. Sorry but I was tired, wanted to reach the destination earlier, plus I am Singaporean. So the result was I killed a rabbit on the 4th night and punctured my fuel tank on the very same night.
All in all, I will try to uplaod some pics once I hit 10 posts. Btw, this is not the smartest rule I ever seen.
