i think a BBQ at ECP or other places might be feasible...
but have to think of those who live further away from the destination and the travelling time..
is the budget provided?? if not those attending can contribute a token of appreciation in terms of money...
any games or activities in mind for the outing or gathering???
include free booze and im sure quite alot of SGClubbers will turn up..

The problem with dinner table interactions is it's hard to really interact with everyone proper, even if the table's wide enough to accommodate a larger group. Most of the time you'd end up conversing solely with the persons beside you, or across the table from you.
But i guess if everyone's agreeable, that could work. Maybe we could y'know, like book a mac and throw a mac party rofl..

that said, why do we need to have a masquerade if most of us don't even use our faces as our DP/avatars to begin?

BBQ not workable unless we have a limited number of ppl. Else we will need to book several pits and everyone will be separated, which defeats the purpose.
The challenge of a party is less outgoing members will be neglected and i can almost imagine the scenario, where everyone goes and stands alone cause no one knows each other. Those who do know each other will form into groups and just hang around themselves. Individual members will feel left out and leave. Had a similar experience....

How about a makan session such as steamboat outing. Like Revvy said there could be a select few who are like our school 'orientation group leaders' who can keep the energy up n make sure everyones mingling. Also perhaps peeps could where a sticker with their nick so peeps can identify each other?
I was thinkin steamboat might b better cause then peeps have more chances of bumpin into each other when goin to get their food\drinks etc.
As for specific locations n such Im not too sure, but I guess one of the main challenges would b e a place large enough.

It's tough planning a single event that can get everyone involved, considering that all of us come from almost any age group/background imaginable.
Having a team of facilitators and a string of games and events sound like the best way to go to get everyone involved. At the end of the day, it still takes 2 hands to clap, and sometimes no matter what we may strive to achieve, the inevitable happens when they refuse to participate or make an effort to mingle. -shrugs-

Hmm, my suggestion will be something similar to what poly/university does to break the ice.
Since this is the first outing SGclub is going to hold. We should focus more on how to let everyone know one another rather than hanging around individually or in group(for those ppl with gangs in SGC!!) .
haha well.. I mean those groups like X-man club that we have.. No string attached etc etc...
Since Xmas is coming soon!! we can now gather ppl to sign up attendance & we will do a present exchange event..Still the same old rules, everyone buy a present ranging from $10-$15, then slot a piece of paper in the present stating who bought this(so ppl who receive it & will know!) then before the present exchange commence we probably can have lunch/dinner together. I;m thinking a gd way to host this would be in a chalet then order buffet ..

Seriously, I think organising the event would not be a big problem.
But then again, at the initial stage you might want to try it on a small scale before moving on to a bigger scale. So that you can learn from the previous event and how to improve from there for the next session. Basically, these kind of mass outing, it is for people to get acquainted with one another, it does not matter whether you know the other person or not (bottom line is making new friends). Another problem with this kind of outing, it is that most people are shy and might not be willing to step out of their comfort zone, so if there is some avenue for them to get to know other members on Sgclub, they would most likely participate for these outings. Another issue would be people will seeing who is turning up, and everyone will be waiting for each other and at the end of the day, the outing will never materialize.
BBQ is a great event to get everyone out. Its good for a mass outing, people can sit around the camp fire in a big circle and play games or talk and etc. I think its one of the best ways, but then again controlling the crowd would be a problem.
I think in order to organise a good event, you will need to have a committee of people to help to coordinate things. Something like an events organiser. And you need to like have a mailing lists to inform people of upcoming events. Apart from that, must have a system to record who will be joining which event, then you will be able to measure the turnout of the event and etc. (Things to prepare and stuff). And if there is a SMS system to inform people of the event organised and send out reminders, I think it will be a big hit with people.
And we need some system to screen people attending the events (for everyone's safety and etc).
Such things need to be considered when organising such an event. Of course, there are lots more of details to go through. These are only some of the points that I have highlighted.
But it will be hell of a event if it is successfully organised. I mean Sgclub has tons of members, no reason why such an event would not be able to take place. =)
