SINGAPORE : The right wing tip of a Singapore Airlines plane scraped the tail of another aircraft while taxiing out to the runway for departure at Beijing's international airport.
A Singapore Airlines spokesperson said the aircraft returned to the gate on Saturday and an assessment is being carried out.
The flight from Beijing to Singapore has been cancelled.
The SIA spokesperson added that the 248 passengers are being provided with hotel accommodation in Beijing.
The airport was shrouded in fog at the time of the incident, said China's state media. - CNA /ls

lol.. 100% pilot error on this one. This could be quite a serious incident and both aircrafts would likely be grounded for major checks. Wonder if SIA has to compensate the china aircraft. Wouldn't want to be responsible for a crash would we.
Although pilots cannot see their wingtips, there are taxi ways with the line marker painted on the ground.. This marker accommodates the aircraft wingspan inside for all aircrafts (furthermore it's only the 777 with shorter wingspan than the A380). so long as the pilot follows the line, he will not hit anything else. Also, the other china aircraft was stationary. Either the other aircraft was not in his bay, or this SIA pilot is a smart aleck and decided to take short cuts on the taxi way.
Fog or visibility has nothing to do with this incident. Vis was about 1+km, distance from cockpit to ground is not more than 20m.
