Came across this, and thought that I'll share this with the general public.
Finally, a platform to shine!
Calling all musicians and aspiring musicians, gear yourself up with a voice recorder, internet connection and your very own voice box, as you could be the
next BIG thing! As part of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games celebration, a singing project is to be held in the months of November till March. Now’s your chance to get out of that stuffy old box, whip out your cleaning cloths, and make sure your shine’s as good as new.
Titled ‘
Sing! Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games’, the song project judges one (or your team) not on how well your voice sounds, but on your song. In other words, the lyrical meaning of your song, the fit of music composition to the lyrics and the overall ‘feel’ of the song. That means, it’s no way alike to Singapore Idol. So bathroom singers, throw on your bathrobes and belt out your tunes. No musical background required, and even if you can’t play a musical instrument, just sing in your own tune or do a rap. Let nothing stop you!
Organised by the Community Outreach Advisory Committee of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) in partnership with the National Youth Achievement Award Gold Award Holders’ Alumi (NYAA GAHA) and Central Singapore Community Development Council (Central Singapore CDC), the song project aims to encourage community involvement in the celebration of the Singapore 2010 through music. Also, it serves as a platform for individuals/groups to be recognized, heard and commented by the public.
Entry requirements are virtually nonexistent, as anyone, and I really do mean anyone, regardless of age, race or nationality qualify to join. The song can even be in any language, provided that there’s an English translation for fair judging, or any genre. However, do note that lyrics should celebrate Olympism and the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect, cause after all, it’s an event to celebrate that we’re gonna play host to the world.
Celebrating yet?
What, no? Then this next part ought to make you shriek. Although organizers are trying to stay away from the word ‘competition’, prizes still remain up for grabs. Impress the judges really well, and stand to win up to
$1000 C.A.S.H plus a shiny trophy for your desk. But that’s not all, there’s more. Semi-finalists would get to perform in the Community Life Arts Programme (CLAP!) at Far East Plaza, and on top of that, as grand winners, the final five might just get their songs played at the various Singapore 2010 related events!
All in all, Sing! Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games is THE place for you to unleash your wrath of talents to Singapore and beyond as we celebrate the coming of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. So hesitate no more, grab a bunch of friends (or on your own), pen down your ideas and start Sing!(ing)
