Singapore Flyer is too costly

Singapore Flyer is too costly

The Straits Times
Monday, Sep 15, 2014

I refer to the story Gearing Up For Second Flight (SundayLife!, Sept 7) on what would draw people to visit the Singapore Flyer. First, it has to review the high charges imposed on citizens and residents.

The ticket prices of $33 for an adult and $21 for a child aged three to 12 are a turn-off. It is costly for a family outing.

Besides, we have better options to view our city, such as having a drink at Ku De Ta atop Marina Bay Sands, which costs about the same as a Singapore Flyer ticket for an adult.

There is also the perception that tourists usually pay less for their tickets due to their tour packages and discounts given to tour agents.

The Flyer has failed to respond to poor visitor numbers by sticking to its stiff pricing. In comparison, Gardens by the Bay has done a marvellous job with special passes and other deals for residents.

So it is not surprising that locals like myself are shunning the Flyer.

As a citizen, I would like to see the Flyer back on its feet and become another must-visit Singapore icon for tourists and locals.

When I visited the Singapore Flyer a few years ago, there was no commentary to point out the various landmarks. What is the point of an observation wheel when you don't know what you are observing?

I sent feedback but did not receive a reply. Basically, it is a second-class observation wheel at first-class prices.

Peter Davies

I have not taken a ride on the Singapore Flyer yet. I would like to if there is ticket pricing for different groups of people, such as for tourists, residents and senior citizens, like what Gardens by the Bay has.

A Friend of Singapore Flyer card for families allowing unlimited entry is also possible. I may consider visiting if there is such a card.

Seriously, if they can bring down the price, many would go and take the ride.
