Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

I am probably not over the Oscars yet as Singapore Polytechnic's Excellence Awards caught my attention. I have been planning to go to college and some Facebook photos caught my interest. I looked at the smiles on the award recipients' faces and these smiles inspired me. Now, I want to be a part of Singapore Polytechnic and hopefully, receive on of those awards.

Anyway, the pictures made me decide to do some research on Singapore Polytechnic. I know that this is a very important decision to make. So far, here are some of the information that convince me to enroll in Polytechnic.

I like it that they have a lot of different events. Such events adds fun to college life and I know that these will make college more interesting. These events will also give me opportunities to know more about myself, my interests, and my abilities. Some of the events in Singapore Polytechnic that sounds interesting are DMIT Gradshow, SD Gradshow, National Earthquake Competition, Communication 101, and Monsterize Workshop.

Singapore Polytechnic also offers a lot of different courses and as of the moment, I am torn between Media and Communication and Creative Writing for TV and New Media. I love writing but I am not yet decided on what I would like to write as a source of living in the future. I just know that I love writing and communication.

I am also very interested in their publications especially Fun+U and inSPire.

I also like joining organizations. I can get very active that sometimes, I wonder if I am spreading myself too thin.

So, I just want to ask for your opinion and recommendations about Singapore Polytechnic. I also need help in deciding if I should take Creative Writing for TV and New Media or Media and Communication. Also, please share some tips if you have any.

Thanks in advance!

Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

Well, of course, you will need to choose your course. No one can really tell which one is best for you. You may need to check what each course offers. It would be hard to choose if you don't really know what you want to do in the future although knowing your skills and your strengths is a good start. Perhaps you can consult a professional like your guidance counselor or something.

However, I have a friend who studies in Singapore Polytechnic and since you have mentioned that you like organizations, you will love it there. There are, I think, about a hundred student organizations in SP!

Good luck!

Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

I can understand your confusion with those courses. Both involves writing but the major difference is that while Creative Writing for TV and New Media focuses more on writing, Diploma in Media and Communication focuses more on presentation of ideas. Although it also involves a lot of writing, it is focused more on connecting ideas and working on campaigns. So, if you really like writing, then I think Creative Writing for TV and New Media is better for you.

You will like it there. I would recommend that you join Malay Language Society or Infocomm Club since you like writing and communication. It is also where the cute and smart girls are.

Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

Perfect timing. I am also looking for information about Singapore Polytechnic. I heard that they will have a landscape photography competition and if they have this and other similar competitions, I am definitely in. You will be glad to know that they have great food in their cafeteria stalls too! I will check this thread for updates. I still have some time before I make my decision.

Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

Thank you for all your replies. I really appreciate it. Now I am a bit more inclined to take Creative Writing for TV and New Media. My heart is really into writing and I would like a future job where that's the main thing that I do. Thank you for the organization suggestions too. I will keep those organizations in mind. More ideas and tips are always welcome.

You're welcome. Glad to be of help. BTW, if you skate, I'm sure you will like SP more as they have a skate park in the campus. That's where I usually hang out.

Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

You can also try organizations that are not related to writing. You might even surprise yourself when you enjoy or excel in other organizations. I like events that are open to all and for a good cause just like their Friendship run earlier this year. How I wish I was there!

@Acton: I like skating! However, nowadays, I enjoy hanging out in the Moberly with my friends just playing board games.

Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

Singapore Polytechnic sounds like a very fun campus to be in. It sounds perfect that I want to ask, what's the catch.

Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

@hihihi123 Hi! Welcome to the forum! Are you from Singapore Polytechnic?

I also find Singapore Poly organizations and extra-curricular activities very interesting. Nowadays it is the Sign Language Club that catches my attention most.

idreamyou is right. My favorite food stalls in the food court are Subway and Starbucks.

Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

Hi hihihi123! Welcome here! Hi everyone! I love SP because it cares for its students. One great proof of this was when examinations time was moved when there was an MRT breakdown. A lot of other students were envious of us. SP is very considerate. You will love it here B0red and idreamofyou.

Re: The Singapore Polytechnic Discussion Thread

If you decided to enroll in SP, be sure to join the freshen orientation. It will make your first day and your transition more fun. My friend was not able to attend the orientation and she regrets it.
