Singaporeans VS Foreigners

Hello to anyone reading this thread, I would like to express my views and feelings to all people out there about the qualification and income level among us and foreigners. I am a pure Singaporean, who lived here all my life. I am in my 20s, and have a Diploma in New Media, which is something related to mass com in case you're unsure. I have took up jobs related or non-related to my course, and am planning to further my studies in degree. However, I am dismayed and pessimistic about this career and even this country as I have faced several disappointing situations recently. Let me elaborate.

I am currently working at this company whereby I work on media stuff, which is related to my area of specialization. I'm a full time worker, have completed my dip studies. I am getting paid 1.5k per month, which I do not mind, thinking that I am an unexperienced fresh grad. But correct me if I am wrong, I do think that the minimum wage out there for diploma holders are 1.8k per month. I am being underpaid, work mondays-saturdays and 10-11 hours daily, which I have mentioned that I do not mind.

However, I feel unfair and extremely pissed off after I came to know that my cousin is getting a pay of 2.3k per month. Let me explain further. My cousin, is 18 years old, a Malaysian who only has a work permit in Singapore. She does not know how to speak English, and she do not have diplomas whatsoever. She came here to work after she graduated from Malaysia's Secondary School or I dont know whatever you call it. She did not have any sort of related experience as she only worked at a small shoe shop in Malaysia before. She now works at this beauty parlor in Singapore as some sort of promoter giving flyers/promoting about beauty stuff. Same amount of workload and hours, 5-6 six days of work a week. I was speechless after hearing this. Whatever happened to Singapore?

Firstly, they do not even know how to converse in ENGLISH. Pardon me but I think this is true. Even if some of them are able to, it is broken English and weird pronunciations. Out of 10 Malaysians, my guess is that only 1-2 speak English and can properly hold a conversation for 10mins. Do not compare the Malaysians who have studied in Singapore. Secondly, work permit is so easy to get nowadays that it looks like toilet paper. My cousins have all successfully managed to get a work permit, and some as young as 17-18 years old. They are earning more than I do, even if our pay is same, their take home pay is still higher as they do not require CPF. Of course, my point is not CPF as I'm not going to start on that. Third, they do not require qualifications. If they are able to get a job right away with that amount of pay, I guess we all do not need any certs anymore. The amount of time and effort studying, is definitely not worth it. And this is what I am considering about if I should even get a degree. Lastly, what happened to Singapore? I dont understand how can an uneducated Malaysian get a higher pay than a Diploma Singaporean? I feel like I'm a third class citizen right here, right now.

All the interviews I had gone to, the pay was never higher than 1.6k. Starting pay is always lower than expected, and I do not mind. I mind that a foreigner who doesnt even qualify for it can get a job with 2.3k? And my cousin's pay wasnt restricted at 2.3k. She could get as high as 3k or more if she could hit targets or stuff like that. I worked as a promoter before, and commisions couldnt even hit that amount? Its generally sad that we dont get what we deserve, or worse still, being trampled and looked down by them.

I really wonder, whatever has happened to this place, what is going to happen to us? Please do share if you have similar experiences.
