SINGAPORE: The Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team (SingCERT) on Tuesday (Oct 17) issued an advisory on the "multiple vulnerabilities" affecting a security protocol commonly used by Wi-Fi networks.

SINGAPORE: On Monday, two Belgian researchers publicly disclosed their research highlighting vulnerabilities in WPA2, a security protocol used to protect Wi-Fi networks, and said that "if your device supports Wi-Fi, it is most likely affected".

This is not just another cybersecurity flaw, as the vulnerabilities lie in the Wi-Fi standard itself, and is not due to weaknesses in individual products or implementations, according to one of the researchers Mathy Vanhoef.

Security flaws put billions of Wi-Fi devices at risk

Major security flaws just discovered have put billions of Wi-Fi devices at risk worldwide, including almost every Internet user in Singapore.

Issuing the alert yesterday, the Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team (SingCert) said: "These vulnerabilities may affect the data confidentiality of users' Wi-Fi connectivity in homes and offices."
