I dun feel it will work this way though. It just make people feel that the ad is disgusting but not really promote quit smoking. At the same time, increasing the price is also not the right way. Why not just ban cigarette?

it sends a clear message to youths about the dangers and perils of smoking:oral cancer. It is graphically disturbing..but the shock factor is meant to encourage ppl not to smoke or quit smoking

I think advertisements dun realyl help la.. like u see government trys to put those disgusting pics on cigarette boxes, but do u see e no. of smokers decrease coz of tt?? I think it only scare small kids lor..

At first, I found it quite gross. The second time I saw the ad, I realised it was not scary liaos. If smokers still buy cigarettes even with those scary pictures on the cigarette box, don't see why an advertisement will drastically improve the situation. Will obviously still help a little, but... sheesh. It does help people to lose weight considering we'll all lose our appetite.

Maybe it's an advertisement to tackle obesity, and not smoking.

The government cannot put a ban on the import of cigarettes into Singapore.
This is because :-
1. Smokers will get their cigarettes illegally & the number of illegally importers
will be unmanageable by the authorities;

2. JB and Batam are less than 30 mins away for smokers to buy their
cigarettes - the ban on import usually stipulates more than 1 packet so
the govt cannot stop smokers if they carry an opened packet of
cigarette;

3. The tourism industry will suffer drastically as there are smoking travellers
from all over the world;

4. Our govt will lose millions in tax dollars from cigarettes;

5. There will always be a way and means for people to capitalize on the
ban of cigarettes to come up with some form of nicotine based products
that might be more harmful to the body;

6. Young smokers will be easily lured to try drugs if cigarettes are banned
