Some QUestions about biking...

Those pro ppl please dun get pissed off...

Ok I am 18 years old thinking about my future---- so it's car or bike. I think a bike is kinda cool and handy until i get married and it's also so much cheaper than a car. However, I always get discouraged by my parents about the hazards it might have within. LOL. And i also heard lotsa stories from my father and uncles about the accidents they had. That's y they never rode again which really turns me off about this entire bike thing. So can someone tell me that I wont get into an accident as long as im careful or are accidents both minor and major inevitable. Also i would like to ask the costs of learning how to bike at the most basic lvl. Thanks in advance.

Re: Some QUestions about biking...

technically speaking bike is definally more cost effective in owning 1 and driving 1 as sg roads congested all the time bike can get between cars and go....

hwever its still dangerous in sg..... no matter hw care full u r as a bike rider there will always be moron drivers who drive unconsiderateble.... which end up u going to get hurt more than the car driver since it has a metal chassis to protect him....

personally i once taught of getting a bike to simple go work n go hm... bt after tat tink twice cost of the moron drivers we have in sg....peak hrs aside since traffic r slow so driving between cars fine... bt i seen idiots drivers during non peak hrs when not much traffic traveling reavetively fast n yet change lane without signal turn without signal stop without hazzard light... etc...

Re: Some QUestions about biking...

Save all those $ that you are going to spend on bike for your car would be better. Although bike can squeeze through all traffic and reach A destination to B destination very fast, there are lots of risk and disadvantage..

Imagine:
Biker was concentrating on changing lanes and did not notice a medium-big tree branch on the ground.
Biker is injured.

Biker saw a cat / dog rush across the road and jam brake, tio bang from behind.
Biker is injured.

Bike bang tio idiot sec school boys who wanna show off his guts to the girls that he dares to choing acrosss the road.
Biker is injured.

Bike bang tio PRC ladies anyhow choing across junction when riding on bicycle.
Biker is injured.

Biker A bang tio biker B / biker B bang tio Biker A
Biker is injured.

Bike bang tio car / Car bang tio bike.
Biker is injured.

Bike bang tio lorry / lorry bang tio bike.
Biker is injured.

No matter what kind of accident happens, the biker always lose.

Re: Some QUestions about biking...

no comment, unless you have passion for it.
i do have both driving license, but my passion for bike is more.
riding bike have pro's and cons, is depend how u see it.
remember when u want to ride a bike, even for a short distance, wear all the necessary protective gear eg: glove, shoes, helmet, jacket..... make it a habit (i know it's hot).
when you wear full riding gear, you'll have more confident, you'll feel safer.
even u had an accident, your protective gear can safe u.
be a smart rider, follow traffic rules

If u will ask me.... dude i wold suggest 1 thing, do whatever u want to.......
bec it is u who will be driving it.... n in future if u dont enjoy ur drivin, then whats the point of doing it....

"Destiny is not in ur hand".... life is short... do whatever u feel like....

Re: Some QUestions about biking...

If oneself is getting a bike due to "seh" instead of passion on a bike or having it as a transport, i think this person won't survive long after obtaining a license and being OTR him/herself.
If you're scared of death or pain, better to stay at home, lock urself inside ure room.
Because if you were to leave this world, no matter what (Bus/MRT/ride/drive/walk), you will still go.
There is a incident sometime ago, few people were standing at the bus stop waiting for bus to go to work/going home after work, and the bus/car loose control of its vehicle and bang into some that were standing at the bus stop waiting for the bus, they died.
So if you don't want to die, lock ure self in the room with 40yrs of supplied food.

Me as a passion person for bikes, i took my license, got my own bike, i fell, this is life bro.

just my 2cents,

As much as i hate to admit, not only drivers are inconsiderate, bikers too. Seen bikes just cut in and out of lanes as though tis their damn ol grandfathers road.

Bottomline is is to ride defensively, always try to anticipate whats gonna happen next.

I think if you just want someone to "tell" you riding a bike is fine then don't bother. Biking is definitely dangerous. Hands down, no argument. Driving is also dangerous but relatively safer.

I think you should look at why you want to ride a bike and why you want to drive a car. If it's economical reasons then yes, bike is obviously cheaper. If it's for style and looks etc, each has their own reasons. If it's for passion, again to each their own reason.

No one is saying you cannot go get get a license that you don't use. Take it as self-improvement.

Maybe what you can do is go do some research. With the internet nowadays, things are so much easier. Look at pics, videos, read articles etc of both vehicles and stories. There's plenty. That'll help narrow down your decision. Do not ethat owning your own vehicle takes quite a bit of responsibility.
