Default S'pore disappointed with Aung San Suu Kyi's trial verdict

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stori...448178/1/.html

SINGAPORE: Singapore has expressed its disappointment over the verdict in the Aung San Suu Kyi trial.

Singapore's Foreign Ministry said Ms Suu Kyi did not plan to violate the terms of her house arrest, and the intruder into her house was a person who appears to be of unsound mind.

However, Singapore is happy the Myanmar government has exercised its sovereign prerogative to half Ms Suu Kyi's sentence to 18 months, and that she will be given house arrest instead of imprisonment.

The ministry added that it is heartened to hear Ms Suu Kyi could receive amnesty for the remainder of her sentence and will be granted access to doctors, newspapers, party members and guests with the government's permission.

The ministry said these are significant gestures, but hopes Myanmar will also allow Ms Suu Kyi to join in the political process as soon as possible.

It added that a meaningful dialogue between all parties and the government is the only hope for Myanmar's long-term political stability.

In the end, the junta's goals are accomplished and UN fails to get anything done.

not really praise the junta, cos comparing imprisonment and house arrest, the latter appear to be 100times better, if she's imprisoned, i am very sure she's not going to make it out 18months later alive.

precisely... and if there are much benefits to be gained in Myanmar, US forces might have topple the junta just like how they overthrown Saddam in Iraq.... comparing Nkorea and Myanmar, i rather have the military junta eliminated!
