SINGAPORE : Over 360 athletes have made the cut to represent Singapore in the November Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.

Chris Chan

Those who did not make the cut have until August 4 to convince the Singapore National Olympic Council that they should take part, by submitting fresh performance results.

The Council expects the number of athletes fielded to grow after considering the appeals.

It said Singapore will participate in new, as well as the usual sporting events, like water polo, swimming and bowling.

However, the Council is seeking clarification from the Singapore Table Tennis Association on why it is reluctant to field its best players.

Chris Chan, Secretary-General of the Singapore National Olympic Council, said: "There was some discussion and it revolves around why are the best not being represented? It is reasonable to expect us to put the best and I think so we want to know why."
