Elderly pedestrians with new ez-link cards get more time at five crossings

FOR senior citizens who need a bit more time to cross the road, the Green Man will be more patient.
From next month, elderly folk who hold the new tap-and-ride ez-link transit cards can use them to make crossing the road less hurried.
Card readers have been installed at five pedestrian crossings here, just above the button that activates the Green Man.
When a senior citizen taps his ez-link concession card - issued to those aged 60 and above - on the reader, the green crossing signal will stay on for another three to five seconds.
Currently, the Green Man stays on for 17 seconds at a four-lane crossing, and 21 seconds for a six-lane crossing. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking...ry_434663.html

great move...but only three to five seconds, isnt that too short
and you know, some elderly people 行动缓慢, maybe tap liao and put back the ez-link card in their pockets, 3-5 seconds already gone

i think, probably there is a special sensor that can detect only senior citizen ez-link cards ?

wow that's damn cool! ez-link card to activate more time for elderly folks! They can just tap their purse unto the detecting device after coming back from marketing with bagful of stuff. so useful! ^^

innovative but like not very smart leh..take wallet out to tap to have an extra 3-5 secs but increases e chances of a snatch thief
