Will we taste the same flavour of the same food as each other?

What I want to ask is do we taste the same flavour similarly? as we share the same taste bud?

Will the food have the same taste in the your mouth and my mouth? is it possible that the food taste different in different tongue?

i think i came across a simillar thread before. But its about the color of our vision. Most of the replies said : We wouldn't know unless we possess another's body.

I mean...If we taste sweet...will another person taste the "sweet" as "sour"?

and "sour" as "sweet"?

The general answer is No. This is because what we taste comes from:

- Smell: The molecules of fragrances that enter our nose, nasal passage and activate signals to our brain, registering a range of 'smells'. Smell plays significant roles in identifying and activating tastes. If a person has lower threshold of certain fragrances, fatigue will set in faster, leading to lower or complete loss in registration of the smells.

- Taste: Molecules come in contact with the taste buds that cover our tongue. Different areas of the tongue register different tastes (sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitterness). How strong it is depend on the number if taste buds and the concentration of taste buds in each different area. The higher the concentration of taste buds, the higher the sensitivity (i.e stronger taste for the same amount of food substance).

Hence person A's taste of sweetness is of different magnitude to person B's.

From what I know, the genetics play a role.
Someone might not be able to taste what another person can.

actually what I am asking is NOT how the "level" of sweetness or bitterness.....in different body....

Is will my "sweet" taste like something else in your tastebud?

hmmm....actually everybody taste the same thing de...sweet is sweet, spicy is spicy...

but for things tat have 2 different taste like tom yam, sour and spicy, some ppl can only taste teh sourness as they can handle spicyness while some can taste the spicyness only as they cant handle the spicyness and it covers over the sourness...

I think should be the same...since we have the same reaction after tasting sour and bitter....

and almost all like sweet...

I dun think so, everyone have different sensitivity of tastebud..If not, there will not be food critics ...

One of life's mystery that will never be solved unless like someone up there said, you possess someone else's body and find out for yourself. The same can be asked for smell and sight. When I see the colour blue and point it out to you, how would I know how "blue" looks like to you in your eyes? For all I know, you could be looking at what I call "green" all along and agree that it is indeed blue. (Confusing much?)

must be diff, but not too much. unless we are talking abt preferences (i.e "I like mcGriddles.. so sweeett" "I dont like mcGriddles, too sweet for me" - but it is still ~sweet~)

^ But I think one thing that we can all be certain is that most people like the taste of "sweet-ness", whatever they think "sweet" tastes like when they put honey or chocolate into their mouth.

i should say yea. Cuze u can try it using red wine. Some can even say it taste like duck. But to me wine looks sweet but taste yucky.

In that case most likely have..... Everyone have different favourite tastes, and with the inclusion of psychological thoughts, that will form the situation mentioned above...
