It is now Game Design and Development, but I believe it's just a name change and the course is largely the same. Year 1 is a lot of fun but year 2 is where the technical stuff like C++ comes in, and that can be a pain to understand.

Is it a must to study C++? Which elective in year 2 contains the least programming?

The electives are 3D Game Design & Development and Advanced Game Development respectively, and I think the former does not require C++, but there is still game engine scripting you need to learn.

Game scripting is much less complex than C++ I hope?

Not sure if less complex but you definitely learn less than you would need for C++. Just some basic coding if you're only looking for a pass.

I think you have to learn much more now? Since the course is now game centric, you definitely need to have a better grasp of coding compared to animation. I think they value skill in coding quite highly.

It definitely gives you more advantage in the working world. Most companies have creative directors to focus fully on the artistic front, so you're really mostly required to do coding well and listen to their orders

Re: Temasek Polytechnic. Aye Mates!

Does anyone know about Cyber and Digital Forensics? I am seeing a lot of polys and unis with this course rather than animation and other IT course related to entertainment. Is it very in demand?

I used to think the cert only allows you to find jobs with security agencies like SPF, but companies of all sorts also need people to be in charge of their cyber security. You can become IT security analyst, cyber security auditor etc, quite a lot of avenues to venture in.

I think you will have better luck with government bodies though; from what I know companies will mostly outsource their IT security to big corporates to be safe.

Frankly speaking though, which industry doesn't outsource their work to foreign companies? I think studying in school of business is the safest bet these days.

while there is some truth in that it is dangerous to not have a unique and particular set of skills in the working force as you can get replaced very quickly. So applied sciences and IT are still good schools to get into.

How much truth is there that TP has the best IT courses/equipment?

Haha, I think every poly boasts that to some degree especially for IT, because it's so easy to just get the latest equipment/programs and say they are the most up to date and relevant. I think TP is stronger at mobile applications though.

Yes as a TP graduate I can attest that their mobile application work is good. But last time I was there the computers for database are still very low end.
