Do you think that those reality game shows like Survivor teach the children the wrong things? We see the participants cheating, double-crossing and betraying each other just to win the prize. Do you think there is anything wrong with doing these deeds even though it is on a game show?

and they air it late at night?? not sure abt that
so that children will not be seeing the show i guess??

Hmm. I think it does to a certain extent. But however there are too many content on the media that does negative effect. Let's take wrestling for instance, although it's not real, but i take that in to violence. Not sure about the others.

i personally feel that reality tv shows that revolve around "love" are generally trash. eg. a shot at love w/ tila tequila, & i love new york. but then again the channels that are airing them are trash, so yeah, you had to see that coming i guess.

for me, it depends..
it depends on the contestant..
it depends on the show whether they want to show the wrong things the contestants do or not..

personally, i think reality shows should be taken simply for their entertainment value. in fact, certain series like Moment of Truth actually preaches honesty. don't you think that's a good thing? and shows like The Apprentice opens us up to the real working world. its amazing how much you can learn from such shows.

The reality means how the contestants take challenges themselves, and solve it their own way.Not follow them,

It would depend on how you look.
The perspective that you look upon is different for persons and how they think to it is also different

For shows like The Amazing Race I believe it has the potential to teach alot of things that I
consider to be 'right', for e.g. cultural sensitivity, managing stress etc etc.
However some shows, for e.g. Moment of Truth I feel are more like glorified gossip .. n it's could give the impression imo that honesty (a value I would consider important) is simply somethin to b considered only if the price is right.
So I voted that it depends.

I voted Depends. Different reality TV shows have a different purpose. Take The Amazing Race for example, some think that it opens up the World to us and let us see many place that we might not visit in our lifetime, some even not knowing where the places are. However, there are scenes in The Amazing Race where you see cursing and swearing [although censored], and sometimes see some nasty things teams do in order to get ahead of other teams. So, I feel that these TV shows should be watched with discretion and should be labeled PG. Parents should teach their children [especially the young] about the negative side of what's showing on the programme.

I was not even thinking about the impact the shows might have on
a younger audience, but considering that each shows plus n minus points are enhanced as
they do not have the ability yet perhaps to discern what is acceptable\unacceptable behaviour as of yet.
I agree having a PG rating and highlighting its importance would be crucial in the LR. Especially as reality shows continue to become more n more popular .. there's a chance the young will b exposed to em more n at a younger age.

Actually it really just depends on how the audience look at it.
Take the common shows for examples. Survivor and Amazing race.
You want to see how they compete? How they try to outdo their team mates through underhand methods? There! You have your entertainment.
Educational ones? Switch it to discovery channel |

i guess it's not only reality shows that have such seemingly negative messages? normal drama serials can also impose too much ideals on love relationships. but the entertainment world is a business world. and educational shows don't always reap that much profits. labeling shows PG don't necessarily results in actual parental guidance actually. my parents didn't guide me in any of my tv watching. =x but i guess it's the only feasible method to rectify the wrong things learnt from the tv.

these shows prepare the youngs on the reality that we are all leaving in.. not jus rainbows and sunshine... no doubt yes, this instill cynism in them, it is nevertheless beneficial in the long run..

It depends on the nature of the show and the person watching it.
For reality shows like Survivor, it shows us the true colours of people. When it comes to the tribal council, they'll come up with lots of reasons to defend themselves from elimination. This amplifies the fact that people are selfish. Similarly, a lot of shows amplify the selfishness in human beings. Hence it can be somewhat negative.
On the contrary, people can also learn from the shows. Like, being honest is the best policy, for example. So.. It really depends on the person watching the show. If s/he is able to tell the right from wrong, then it wouldn't be teaching the wrong things, in fact, they might even teach people the right values.
Just some of my thoughts.

In fact I think survivor is a great show for younger audience.
"The strong survives, the weak dies." That's what its about in life.
