Too many fruits?

Now that I'm learning diabetes runs in my family, I'm realizing that I eat more fruit in a day than I really should. I thought I was just being healthy, but now I'm going to replace some of that fruit sugar with green and leafy vegetables.

Re: Too many fruits?

It's good that you're watching your sugars while you're young, Alleah. Too many people end up with diabetes and other illnesses because they wait too long to do something about their diets.

Re: Too many fruits?

I eat a lot of fruit. I thought they were good for you. I'm going to start counting how many I eat a day and make sure it's not more than the vegetables. Does that sound like a good plan? Diabetes runs in our family, but I'm young.

Re: Too many fruits?

That sounds like a good plan. Though, I read that sugar in fruits is "good sugar". It is easy to break down compared to sugar in artificial sweeteners.

Re: Too many fruits?

Fruit is good for you, but it's possible to overdo a good thing. Go for fresh fruit and berries before you go to the juice itself. Have you tried pomegranate juice or prickly pear juice?

Re: Too many fruits?

mix the fruit with greens in a smoothie, use a blendtec blender with green kale/mango combo its very simple and easy for beginners. i do kale/cucumber/pears mostly and i try to get concorde or bosc because i need a little sweeter to maintain glucose levels.

learn the glycemic index and avoid high GI foods, you will learn which ones are too high for you over time but for example eat quinoa instead of rice with your meals and also don't skip meals and don't snack, just keep it simple and eat 3 times a day.

avoid foods with corn ingredients, yes corn flour as well and eating fruits like bananas because they can flux your levels. cashews are really bad for me, they crash me out avoid those.

Re: Too many fruits?

Moderation is the key to good health.
No point taking too much fruits, and you have tummy upset.
I think a mixture of fruits, nuts and vegetables will be good. Just have to cut down on starchy food.

Re: Too many fruits?

It depends on what type you ate. You could gain weight (avocados and bananas come to mind), you could become constipated (apples and other fibrous fruit!) or you could have a period of Vitamin C overdose (oranges, citrus,) and have the opposite problem of constipation.
