Above average but just barely. Lots of room for improvement still.

seriously, I'm appalled! I was very certain I've got at least 4/5 correct!

Qn 1 - definitely 50%
Qn 2 - this is the only question I had no confidence in the ans, but mine was 8
Qn 3 - 75 mystery, 25 romance, remainder 50 = the last type *very sure of ans too*
Qn 4 - the mum is definitely 45 now, son is 5 yrs old. 5yrs ltr, she's 50, son is 10yrs old
Qn 5 - aug (31) + sep (30) + oct (31) = 92, divide by 4 = 23, multiply 6 (one million has 6 zeros) = 138, subtract 2 dozen (which is 24) = 114, adding all digits tgt = 1 + 1 + 4 = 6! *this is definitely right too*

I'm quite sure with my answers, been a tutor for 3 years, and I've taught secondary one mathematics in SJC last year. Think TS might wanna take a look at the answers?

it's kind of self evident.. but if you need proof think of an example.

say a shirt cost $100
50% discount means shirt will cost $50

on the other hand a 10% discount will first drop the price to $90 and a further 40% discount drops it to $54.

Hence it's always better to go straight with the 50% discount.

This is also the reason why you can add discounts together to give you the average discount... eg. you can't say that if item A has a 10% discount and item b has a 20% discount therefore if I buy item A and B together then on average I had a 15% discount.

instead you need to perform was is known as the geometric mean for such situations.

erm..
i believe the ans qn 2 was 6.. if it was the gloves qn.. cant really rmb which is which..
and the answer for qn 5 is supposedly wrong from the posts before so yea.. 3/5..

the glove is 6... just count the longest possible method..
assuming you get 1 of every color in the first 3 tries
next, you get one more (assume black) -> you get 1pair and 2 other colors (4th glove)
next, you get another black -> you get 1pair and 1 of all 3 colors (5th glove)
next, the 6th glove, doesn't matter what color you get, you'd get 2 pairs

Isn't there any links to the right answers there?

Oh me god I just realised I times 40% as the price for question 1 after deducting 10% off the original price. Lols. Me zai like that also can count wrong no wonder I prefer A Maths to E Maths. XD
