Unsure of which Antivirus 2 buy after viewing so much threads...

Hi all,

I know that there are lots of threads about tis, and after viewing all these, i am still unsure of which AV to buy..

I am currently using a acer laptop with windows 7,and there's an one year mcafee AV in it. It expires in december and i am planning to get an AV thats good for my laptop. One feature that i think is good for mcafee is the site advisor that it provides and it blocks dangerous ads.

I only need an AV for 1 PC, there are 2 users for my laptop, my bro and me. I could prefer an AV which provides an site advisor that warns me on which sites to go and not to and an AV which won't lag too much on my laptop. An AV which is easy to use will be better. My budget is less than 40 bucks...

After doing some research on google and viewing the threads here, it reflects that Kaspersky and eset nod32 are good. I went to check on the price for some AV, Kaspersky is around 45 bucks, but it protects 3 PCs, its an waste for me, coz i m using only one laptop. Mcafee is also around this price too.

So, I am unsure of which AV to buy? Where to buy too? I live in woodlands.. Pls recommend. Thank you.

You can purchase Eset over online for the license, they will email it to you for 1 year 1 user is only S$29 alternatively you can wait till Sitex during end of Nov usually it will be going off at S$23 for 1 year 1 user, Eset is a lightweight AV compared to Kaspersky although both are relatively good, if you have 2 friends interested to split the cost of 1 year 3 user that would be much of saving on a 1 year 1 user

Before you install any other AV remember to uninstall your Mcafee

Just use Microsoft Security Essentials. Free, keeps your PC free of viruses and being a Microsoft product it's hassle-free to use.

You could get 3 friends to share 3 users licence. Getting it online would also be cheaper.

I tired ESET, Kaspersky and Bitdefender antivirus. They are quite good IMO, you might want to consider them. My advice is to avoid mcafee.

For free antivirus, you can consider MSE like what 93ASUSFTW has recommended.

I'll recommend you to use Microsoft Security Essentials too. If you're a general computer user, I don't think you'll need a strong anti-virus unless you go around mass downloading and installing things.

Not advisable to run more than one anti virus on a machine. An anti virus is an virus to another anti virus.

MSE should be sufficient for you. You can also install Malwarebyte to perform a on-demand scan whenever you feel like it.

You can turn off Windows Defender safely since you already got Mcafee.

It you still feel unsafe, you could install and run Malwarebyte on-demand scan whenever you like. Malwarebyte free does not run in background which could be a good thing since you already have another anti virus.

If considering between Kaspersky or Eset NOD32, Kaspersky seems to be more heavyweight but with higher detection rate, but Eset NOD32 is lighter weight with slightly lower detection rate.

Yes they're commercial anti-virus. But you're willing to pay for commercial ones right as your thread title indicates?
