Re: Vietnam shopping

Both of the city are not shopping places.....
......HCM city is better than Hanoi, you can consider to visit the Saigon market... not bad.
By the way, you can find many very nice seafood BBQ near the market at night~

Re: Vietnam shopping

i went to HCMC b4, seriously nth to shop, the Ben Thanh market (day) sells all the imitations, coffee beans/powder, handicraft and local products, if u r looking 4 fashionable and trendy stuff like in BKK's Chatuchak, u will b disappointed. the night market sells almost the same thing but there may be a difference in prices. always bargain and haggle. the stall owners r very smart, they can tell from ur looks or ur accent that u r singaporean, so muz bargain, start with at least 50-70% off, if they really dun want, then walk away and compare prices, some stalls sell same things but in different location and area they quote different prices. expect to pay only $2-$4 for a t shirt, anything more than $5 for local tshirt in the night/day market is considered expensive. The shopping centres i been is Saigon shopping centre, nth much, only ****'s tshirt was worth buying as there was a sale = abt $20+ sing dollar...

food wise ok lor, normal... beer is cheap and good, their local brand 333 can be as cheap as $1 sing dollar in normal restaurant to abt $3 in more high class restaurants. their spring roll is a bit overrated... pho is not bad and those beef or pork noodles are quite nice. dun drink water unless they are boiled and hot or warm, dun take ice or drink from the tap as their water is not clean, take bottled water if water source or cleanliness is dubious or unknown.

cleanliness of toilets r still acceptable and may be even cleaner than local public toilets.

Wifi is in abundance, all cafe, hotels and restaurants haf wifi i tink and unlike wireless@sg, u dun nd to log in even at the airport, u can just access and use, so if u r bored and u haf wifi enabled phone, u can surf net... Dun b shocked at the standard of the airport, it is small and not many duty free shops, the arrival hall where people wait for their families and friends r non air conditioned and next to the main road unlike sg's changi...

B careful with ur belongings, if u haf iphone, dun take out and flash it on the streets, beware of robbers, and pickpockets, take gd care of ur money as well, dun bring large amt of cash unnecessary, try to keep spare cash in pocket or luggage for emergency.

their traffic is really notoriously well known, motorist dun stop even at zebra crossing, so u nid to pluck up ur courage to cross their roads, and it is really an experience, they also honk non stop 4 no reasons at all...

hope this helps and enjoy

Re: Vietnam shopping

Ha Noi has more of a colonial charm, but Ho Chi Minh is such a buzzy and lively place, I would go for HCM!

Re: Vietnam shopping

Vietnam are more for sightseeing, especially in Ho Chi Minh.
if you really enjoy shopping, is better to go Bangkok (but not now)...
