Its up to individual whether to write his/her name on it.
Let face it, if you are giving an average size ang bao, no need to put name but if you are giving a big fat one then its better to put name! hehe!

Let's put it this way.
Since most of the wedding have guest list and you're invited, reception will actually acknowledge your arrival and collect your angbao. If you manage to rush in, dumping the angbao quickly, you might "siam" the process. If not, very likely you will get noted.

i guess normally they write their name there so that in future if you get married,
they'll return you with around the amount as what you gave.

i nv bao b4.. but my sister solemnization ceremony... and i m the angbao collector.. so i will carry a pen wherever i go.. and which ever angbao is passed to me, i will make sure the name is written. or i will write the name on top. this is like wat many have sad, to return the amt when the ang bao giver or their child gets married.

my mum always stress that i need to write..
to me, i also feel that write onli if you bao a $100 or more ang bao la..
avg size one can forget about it la..
anyway the wedding dinners i attend so far, i just 'sign in' and then go to drop e ang bao myself in one big box..
no one checked if i got drop or help me write my name..

Its NOT a must but as wat joann sienna was true. But lets say u give 100, but will he/she give u back 100 when u get married? I doubt so. It depends on where u hold ur wedding dinner. If resturant, the ang pao "rate" is lower compare to hotel.
