Westies Vs Toy red poodle~!

I'am thinking of getting either one of these two breeds..anyone can share their experiences? I know westies are prone to skin diseases compared to poodle and that makes me think twice cause i'am afraid my parents would grumble more if vet bills very high since these two breeds are already expensive types :handsup:

westies are really cute and less common. poodles are really common nowadays. alot of pet shops are selling poodles now. so if i were to choose, i will take westies.

Oh yes, I like westies too and I have been thinking of buying one too after seeing the advertisment on a particular dog food. Look up the internet, read about how to care for them and I think with good care, they won't be able to develop skin disease.

If anybody have westies puppies for sale, please pm me huh! The price for westies in Singapore is atrocious!!

but have you thought of wadd will you do if ur westie had skin disease?
Its really v sad nd sad if your few mth old puppy got the disease.

pls do read up & consider 1st.
Buy from approved breeders, not petshop or farm.
high chances of ur pup getting parvo virus[ not sure if spelled correctly]

Where do you find "approved breeders" in Singapore? Also, "approved breeders" who is the approval authority or organization?
I am looking for a westie.
Other than pet shops and pet farms, I don't know where to find a nice westie.
Any idea??

bcos it cost a big bomb if your westie is sick .

i have never got a dog from skc b4,
but some seniors advised me to contact them thrgh email or call them to check the relevant informations that i [you] need . ^^

OIC. I don't really need to read that link. In my family, we have westies for more than 15 years. Most of the info from the link are not relevant. The first Westie in the family was from England. Then, we had another one from New Zealand. Both died of old age.
We got another one from Australia through a pet shop in Singapore. It died recently from internal growth, suspected cancer. Since then, I have been looking for a Westie locally. We have another Westie from England. He is three now.
About the skin problem, we have been quite lucky. I have a "secret" formula for getting a Westie pup. Never get a Westie pup from cold climate. If you do need to get a Westie from cold climate country, make sure the pup is a SUMMER baby.
BTW, SKC does not have a register for "approved breeders" of any kind. In Australia and New Zealand, we can refer to the local Westie club to find a reputable (responsible) breeder. A reputable breeder will always be a registered member of the breed club. Breeders will also take part in the Dog shows. Therefore, interested owners can view the parents and look at the blood lines.
Pure breed (or pedigree) canines generally have some genetic "problems". In Westie case, SKIN problem is one of them.
I came across a local Westie club in Singapore. However, I understand the local Westie Club is an "unofficial" breed club, meaning it does not have any affiliation with SKC (Singapore Kennel Club). Generally, all breed clubs is affiliated to local Kennel Club.
If I can't find a local Westie breeder, I plan to get one from New Zealand at the end of this year. The breeder has agreed to reserve one pup for me. If anyone out there who is interested in pedigree Westie pup from New Zealand, do let me know. This breeder has bred World champion Westies previously.

well, i planned to get a toy red poodle .

since i know westie can get skin disease easily...
im afriad i cant handle the blow if i got myself a darling westie,yets, fall sick and somehow.. he/she dies.

maybe SKC will give you list of reputable breeders in sg.

I am a Malaysian. So is my wife. But, both of us lived overseas in the 80s.
We were member of SKC at one time. SKC is of no help. A personal friend is on SKC governing council. Also, we have been in SKC shows since the 80s. BTW, kennel club does not get involved in breeding program. Kennel club only keeps the pedigree registry.
My in-law kept toy poodles and standard poodle in the 80s and 90s. The grooming is a headache la. Wifey likes to get a poodle. But, the smallest dog I can tolerate is Westie or Cairn terrier.

BTW, we have been acquittance with SKC president and her family for more than 15 years.

im really clueless about the skc one.
i was told to check with them abt the approved breeders.
Standard poodles is a no no for me .

i prefer a toy .
small and not to hassle for a non-pro like me ^^

With such responsible daddy and mummy..
hope ur children will inherit the responsible factors frm both of you ^^

Oh btw, i rmb there is a skc roadshow.
not sure abt the date, maybe you can like ask them on the spot if you were to go for the roadshow ^^

have you tried checking with SKC website for the road show?
BTW, toy poodles are very smart. Some get jealous as well. Very emo dogs ...and high maintenance ..

2. SKC Open Dog Show @ Ang Mo Kio, 14 Oct 2007
It's at Ang Mo Kio CC, from 12pm onwards, and the open show is after that I think. Think there's no entrance fee.

Companion events include Waggiest Tail, Best-Groomed Dog and Doggie Race - separate categories for big and small dogs. Entry fees for the companion events are $15 per dog for non-SKC members and $12 per dog for SKC members. Registration closes at 11.30am onsite that day itself.

Nice going poopy.

I always had at least two dogs when I was growing up at yr age. But, I like big dogs. GR is a little small for me. But, I like GR agility.

I am not a groomer. So, I have no idea what is a "puppy cut". But, if want to have yr poodle running through agility course, that I can help.

My parents cannot afford to have a dog.
tats why have less contact with dogs.

my biggest feaR:
huge dogs like GR,hyusky lols

been nearly bitten by them since young.
