What is Power Walking?

Walking is the most natural and fundamental of all human conscious movement by putting one foot in front of the other and moving your arms in opposition, you can propel yourself forward at approximately 5Km/h. Add the power, change your focus,adjust your technique,and the pace can increase to 8Km/h or more. That is an example of power walking. Fast walking is another phase.

Many people take up walking as a hobby or for the sake of fitness because it is so accessible. It is a low impact form of exercise because it does not put undue stress and strain on your joint. This means it carries a low risk of injury. You also donít need to go through the pain thereshold as you do with some other sports, it is up to you to choose how challenging you want it to be.

Let me show you the difference between average walking and power walking.

Average walking: Everyone has their own walking speed in everyday life, but the average walking is considered to be approximately 5Km/h. This would mean an average walker would take 12 minutes to walk a kilometre, though most people probably could not sustain this speed for more than a hour or so.

Power Walking. A power walker can reach speeds of up to 8km/h, which means walking a kilometre in less than 8 minutes. To propel forwards, a power walker pushes off each stride from the toes with a straight back leg for extra strength and stability. This is where the power comes from and why the push off is so important. The arm movement is also vital to a power walkerís speed and drive, with both elbows at a 90 degree angle, the arms punching back and forth in a piston like action. In short power walking is a fast form of walking.

Power walking is good for elderly people or people with knee problems who feel jogging really hurts their knee as it is a low impact exercise. Power walking is also a good way to lose weight. Some benefits of power walking include:

(1) Reduces tension,stress,anxiety and enhance mental well being

(2) Tones and strengthen your muscles

(3) Improves muscular endurance and flexiblity

(4) Helps manage body weight and reduce body fat

(5) Reduce the risk of Type 2 dibetes

(6) Reduce the risk of cancer

(7) Improves energy levels and self-esteem

Jogging and running is still better unless u are rly obese or an elderly.

I am here to this forum.Walking is the best solution for good fitness and health.Mostly people
like the morning walk for good fitness.It is the best and easier way for losing weight and
fat.I am going to the morning walk daily for keep good fitness.

Thanks for giving this information about energy going for walks. With a routine, I depend on going for walks as my main way of exercise. Now, I can make going for walks even more valuable to my health by implementing the methods of energy going for walks.

I like to power walk when I'm frustrated or upset or feeling out of sorts. Getting my frustrations out by pounding the sidewalks and swinging my arms helps me to get all that energy out.

power walking also have other meaning, it mean you possessed by a ghost, and walk with kind of power

I see some of the middle-aged women around my neighborhood power walking. Some carry hand weights and some just push themselves faster and faster as they get into the rhythm.

Power walking, for me has proven to be good for the "buns". It really helps to firm them up and power walking to me is more of a challenge than just outright jogging. It takes more discipline to try to walk at a high pace, without being tempted to just break out into a light jog.
