I am not sure are there any threads or posting regarding wine investment. I think this is the best place to post this topic.
Anyone have done any wine investment before? Are the returns really that good as advertised?
I have been approached by a wine broker before and every now and then, he will send me emails regarding the performance of wine investment around the world. It seems that the returns are very good.
However, I do not have any understanding of wine. For example, I don't even know what vintage or grapes are considered as good investment grade type. Basically speaking, I have absolutely no idea of wine appreciation.
If I were really to proceed to read up and study more about wines (just studying, not investing yet), do you people think that it's a good prospect to read into, in terms or alternative investment options?
Thanks and regards.

There's an article on wine investment in the Sunday Times. |

Yah, wine investing is not an uncommon investment instrument. Just that people are not so financial-savvy about the various investment instruments. Can't blame them. You're better off asking this in Sgfunds.com.
For me, I won't invest in wine because I'm not knowledgable in that field. The broker can smoke me until I blur, I also wun know what happpen. I only get wine for drinking.

Wine investment is the same as stocks, U need to know which year harvast is good. What kind of grapes, in which country, how the grape taste like? There are a few kinds of grapes chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, different grapes has got different ways to fermentated. Some has gone milder taste, Etc, many things to learn, starting learning from wine appreciation first. This one high level of investment cos alot of product knowledge is needed.
This is good learning as u really need some knowledge to "smoke" your way out. Actually I know very little about wine, I always "smoke" my way out then change topic quickly. I always like fruitier taste. That's why I only drink ice wine. The only bad thing, 1 bottle can only about fill 2 glasses.I know one night I need 2 bottles at least.

yeah, I understand that alot of reading and understanding of wine is required before starting to invest in wine. As of now, I have absolutely no idea of wine appreciation, for example, what to look out for when selecting wine, what vintage or harvest, etc.
I am trying to get started but don't know where to start from. That's why I posted this thread. haha

Wow...we are seeing more and more S'poreans latching onto the Internet Goldmine.
Whilst I was studying the US, I encountered a number of TV advertisments appearing on national TV to show how ordinary people are making money from the Internet.
But seriously, do they really make as much as they say they do? How many actually succeed?

I'm not too sure about wine investment.
However, I think there is great potential. I was in St Edmilion, in the wine region of Bordeux, in France.
Spoke to a winery owner, there are people who are willing to pay for wine produced in the year that they are born. So, this is one form of money making if you connect with locals here with the winery owners in France.

Here is an article about wine investment : http://singaporeprofit.com/2007/07/2...-in-singapore/ Just to say that i am a wine broker.
Would like to share to those who does not have the knowledge or interested about wine investments but still not sure to invest, Just ask yourself if you are a risk taker and you have already done many other form of investment, i believe this will benefit you now and in the future..
brief about wine investment.("en primeur" what they call it.)
Yes i do wine investment, but we are professional where we select range of wines amongst thousands of labels and winery in the world for collection and investment. The wines that we bring in is at their greatest potential for capital growth. We offer our clients at the most attractive prices and furnish them with full profile of the wines in the best form of Vintages, Winery and ratings by world known wine critics like Robert Parker Jr. The wines are stored in a bonded warehouse which is kept in ideal climate of 14degrees & 70% humidity and with full insurance coverage.(if the bottles to be broken)
Some steps to invest in wine.
1. Buy wines which are highly recommended by wine critics/best vintages/winery.
2. You require at least $5000 and invest for a minimum of 3-5 years. (but best if you want to see BIG BUCKS in is about 10k portfolio)
3. You stand to get annual average returns from 8 to 12 percent. Some good wine investments returned 12-40 percent.( varies according to market performances)
4. Since there is limited supply, but increasingly more people drink them, demand is high. This adds to the value of the wine as a luxury item.
There are a few reasons to invest in wines.
* Tax Free
* World-Wide Demand
* Increasing Rarity
* Low Risk
* Decreasing Availability
* Customised Portfolios
* Easily Realisable
* Personal ownership of tangible asset
* No Annual Management Fees
So this is just a brief for those who are thinking about wine investment.
I believe that currently US is going for a recession soon, and UT are not going that well too.
Maybe this will be a beneficial way to do investment now..
