Who Are Working In Fields Related To What You Had Studied In School?

Time for the truth. Who are really working in the fields related to what you had majored in school? Eg: ITE,Poly,Uni ('A'/'O'/'N' level may also state if what they had studied are useful in work or not)

You may also voice out whatever opinion you have for working/studying life. Eg: IT field not much opportunity here, you prefer/or not prefer to work in field/job related to what you studied.

Re: Who Are Working In Field Related To What You Had Studied In School?

No. I'm working in the airline currently right now. And it's not what I've studied. But I decide not to carry on anymore and goes back to studying. Though working in the airline is what I've always dream about but after what I've experience through my working life, going back to the practical life is more realistic. Studying is useful, don't view it as something that is useful
because of what you're gonna work in future but view it as a form of increasing your knowledge =)

And for those people who feel that studying is a waste of alot of time, you will never know what you are gonna go through in the working life. the working life is tough and unexpected, is not like when you are in school, when you need help, there're teachers around but in the working life, most of the time, you've got to help yourself.

Anyway, right now I wish to pursue areas in psychology. And be a child therapist in future =)

Re: Who Are Working In Field Related To What You Had Studied In School?

well i studied civil engineering in sp and ended up in the army but not as a combat engineer. i do not think that i will further civil engr neither work in that line.. it was a mistake. in two years time im returning back to studies, and theres alot of choices there, like psychology, social science, and proabably at that time i'll come back and say that im doing what i studied. thats if we're not affected by disasters by then

Re: Who Are Working In Fields Related To What You Had Studied In School?

I studied Hotel management and am now working in the hotel industry.

As for the rest of my classmates, less than 5 of them remained in this trade, anyway for my trade nothing to be surprised about because in my line is very tough not like what people see it as glamourous....

Re: Who Are Working In Fields Related To What You Had Studied In School?

i had a choice to sign up for which vocation but i didnt choose engineers. lol. because im no good at it..

anyway civil engineering deals with the structural and support of a buildings. calculates the loading, reinforcement, basically the bare skeleton of any structure. can also be a bridge.

basically speaking, if the structure collapses, ppl will point at the civil engineers. i think hooolahoop is studying this in uni? respect man..

Re: Who Are Working In Fields Related To What You Had Studied In School?

I am studying multimedia etc, but I learned most of the stuff from elsewhere. Internet, books, videos, practical experience etc. So I find school a rather waste of time. Usually I already learn most of the stuff that I need before they even start teaching it.

I am self-employed, and multimedia is only a part of what I do.

Not all, just the stuff that I like and things that are useful to me.
Eg. Flash, actionscript etc.. I learn a lot from doing it myself and trying to find solutions through the net. They only started teaching that in 2nd semester of year 2 and what they teach is less than what I learned.

For stuff such as electronics, which I am not interested in or find no point in learning. I will not learn them. Things like these, only when I see the need to learn them, I will go read about it etc.

Re: Who Are Working In Fields Related To What You Had Studied In School?

i study mass com but need to take over the family business one day so... has to give up on my real aimbition..

actually... what most people study after sec 4/5 are topics of their interests during that time.. honestly how many of us is sticking to 1 aimbition since the 1st is decided?

the reasons behind why people who did not in the related field can be the following:

1.) they have change their aimbition..
2.) they can't find a job in that feild... (example: when mass com was first started, so many people took the course, in the end, now most of my class mates r fighting for the position with so many wannabe...)
3.) maybe they needs to take over their family business... like me and most of my sec friends..
4.) some of them received better offer in another field...

i totally agree with lovedj point of view... some of my sec friends did not choose to study jc/poly cos they r the only son/child who needs to take over their family business someday, so they spend their time having fun before they step into the business world... all of them had told me that they regret not taking up a subject they like cos at least has the chance to enjoy the involvement in their interest subject...

like my case, having studied mass com, gives me the opportunity to know and friends many people of my interest and when i step into the business world, the knowledge i gain from my studies and the friends could be a great help...
