Dai won in a time of 3 minutes, 50.91 seconds.

He beat South Africa's Commonwealth Youth Games champion Chad Le Clos, who took silver, by less than half a second.

Hungary's Peter Bernal won the bronze.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan have taken two gold medals in the 50kg and 42kg boys' Greco-Roman wrestling events.

At Suntec City Convention Centre, Elman Mukhtarov beat Nurbek Hakkulov of Uzbekistan for the 50kg gold, while Kyrgystan's Shadybek Sulaimanov took the bronze.

In the 42kg category, Azerbaijan's Murad Bazarov defeated Yosvanys Pena Flores to clinch the gold. And Akan Baimaganbetov grabbed the bronze.

Over in the 58kg boys' event, Krygystan's Umatbek Amatov took the gold after beating Olexandr Lytvynov of the Ukraine. And Russia's Artur Suleymanov finished with the bronze.

Over in badminton at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore's Huang Chao started his boys' singles campaign with a 2 games to 1 victory in Pool H.

The 18-year-old beat India's Sairaneeth Bhamidipati 21-12, 18-21, 21-17.

Huang will face Peru's Mario Cuba in his next group game on Monday.

And over at the Kallang Tennis Centre, Singapore's hope in the girls' singles event, Stefanie Tan, is out.

The 17-year-old battled for an hour and 40 minutes, but eventually lost 6-2, 6-3 to Russia's Daria Gavrilova in the first round.
